Brand
A brand is a name, term, design, symbol or any other feature that distinguishes one seller's good or service from those of other sellers. Brands are used in business, marketing, and advertising for recognition and, importantly, to create and store value as brand equity for the object identified, to the benefit of the brand's customers, its owners and shareholders. Brand names are sometimes distinguished from Generic brand, generic or store brands. The practice of branding - in the original literal sense of marking by burning - is thought to have begun with the ancient Egyptians, who are known to have engaged in livestock branding as early as 2,700 BCE. Branding was used to differentiate one person's cattle from another's by means of a distinctive symbol burned into the animal's skin with a hot branding iron. If a person stole any of the cattle, anyone else who saw the symbol could deduce the actual owner. The term has been extended to mean a strategic personality for a produ ...

Sun Java System Directory Proxy Server
The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is a nearly perfect ball of hot plasma, heated to incandescence by nuclear fusion reactions in its core. The Sun radiates this energy mainly as light, ultraviolet, and infrared radiation, and is the most important source of energy for life on Earth. The Sun's radius is about , or 109 times that of Earth. Its mass is about 330,000 times that of Earth, comprising about 99.86% of the total mass of the Solar System. Roughly three-quarters of the Sun's mass consists of hydrogen (~73%); the rest is mostly helium (~25%), with much smaller quantities of heavier elements, including oxygen, carbon, neon, and iron. The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star (G2V). As such, it is informally, and not completely accurately, referred to as a yellow dwarf (its light is actually white). It formed approximately 4.6 billionAll numbers in this article are short scale. One billion is 109, or 1,000,000,000. years ago from the gravitat ...

Sun Java System Portal Server
The Sun Java System Portal Server is a component of the Sun Java Platform, Enterprise Edition, a software system that supports a wide range of enterprise computing needs. Portal Server allows administrators and delegated administrators to build portal pages and to make them available to individuals throughout an enterprise according to user identities. Portal Server's core framework supports the Java Specification Request (JSR) 168 and 286 Java Portlet specification standard and the Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) 1.0 standard for portal content. Portlet developers can use the NetBeans IDE or open standard tools to build standards-based portlets. Developers can also use design tools such as Dreamweaver to design new themes and skins. Portal administrators can then leverage portlets, WSRP consumers, or additional portal tools for adding content to portal pages. The latest version of Portal Server is 7.2. This version provides a framework and a set of software modules th ...

Sun Java System Calendar Server
The Sun Java System Calendar Server was Sun's calendar (scheduling) server. The currently available version is 6.3 which is now part of the Sun Java System Communications Suite. Users can access their calendar and task list items using a variety of clients. Web browsers will be able to access Calendar data using Sun Java System Communications Express as an HTML-based client. Microsoft Outlook users can access their calendar data using the Sun Java System Connector for Microsoft Outlook, which is not yet compatible with Outlook 2010. Mozilla Thunderbird users can add fully functional calendar access to the Sun Calendar Server to the email software by adding the Mozilla Lightning extension for WCAP (Web Calendar Access Protocol). Finally, starting in 2008, the Sun Java System Communications Suite 6 will include an AJAX-based Web client which will provide better "thick client-like" user interactions. A useful feature of Calendar Server is the notification service. This service ...

Sun Java System Messaging Server
Oracle Communications Messaging Server is Oracle's messaging (email) server software. The software was obtained by Oracle as part of the company's acquisition of Sun in 2010. Oracle's Messaging Server could potentially be the most widely deployed commercial email server on the planet, with claims of 150 million mailboxes deployed worldwide (mostly by ISPs, telcos, universities, government, and cable TV broadband providers). History of development Oracle Communications Messaging Server has a long history, drawing technology from * Sun Internet Mail Server (SIMS) * Netscape Messaging Server (NMS)Netscape Messaging Server's predecessor, Netscape Mail Server, was largely based on code licensed from another product called Software.com Post.Office. The licensed code was phased out in later versions. * PMDF from Innosoft In addition to the Messaging Server's three parents, the software has undergone multiple brand naming changes: * iPlanet Messaging Server * Sun ONE Messaging Serve ...

Proxy Server
In computer networking, a proxy server is a server application that acts as an intermediary between a client requesting a resource and the server providing that resource. Instead of connecting directly to a server that can fulfill a request for a resource, such as a file or web page, the client directs the request to the proxy server, which evaluates the request and performs the required network transactions. This serves as a method to simplify or control the complexity of the request, or provide additional benefits such as load balancing, privacy, or security. Proxies were devised to add structure and encapsulation to distributed systems. A proxy server thus functions on behalf of the client when requesting service, potentially masking the true origin of the request to the resource server. Types A proxy server may reside on the user's local computer, or at any point between the user's computer and destination servers on the Internet. A proxy server that passes unmodified r ...

Sun Java System Web Proxy Server
The Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server (OiWPS), formerly known as Sun Java System Web Proxy Server (SJSWPS), is a proxy server software developed by Sun Microsystems (since 2010, Oracle Corporation). Overview The Oracle iPlanet Web Proxy Server, is a popular HTTP/1.1 Proxy server software developed by Sun Microsystems. OiWPS 4.0 is widely used for proxying, caching, and filtering web content, boosting network security and performance, as well as to protect and secure, and load balance across, content servers. History Earlier known as ''Sun ONE Web Proxy server'', the Sun Java System Web Proxy Server 4.0 is a major rewrite of the older 3.x version of Sun's Proxy server, formerly known as ''Netscape Proxy Server''. The ''Netscape Proxy Server'' version 3.x was essentially a coupling between the Netscape browser client, responsible for talking to remote servers, and the Netscape web server 4.x, which in turn handled the duty of talking to a client. Support for multithreading was absen ...

Oracle iPlanet Web Server is available on Solaris, Windows, HP-UX, AIX, Linux, supports JSP and Java Servlet technologies, PHP, NSAPI, CGI, and ColdFusion. History The Netscape Enterprise Server web server was developed originally by Netscape Communications Corporation in 1996, based on its 1994 release of Netsite. The product was renamed Sun Java System Web Server, reflecting the product's acquisition by Sun Microsystems, and then, when Oracle acquired Sun in 2010, to Oracle iPlanet Web Server. In January 2009, Sun open sourced core components of Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 under the BSD license as Open Web Server. The open source version was kept in sync with commercial releases until January 2010 (7.0 update 8). Since Oracle's ac ...
