Sumy ( uk, Суми ) is a city of regional significance in Ukraine, and the capital of Sumy Oblast. The city is situated on the banks of the Psel River in northeastern Ukraine with a population of according to the 2021 census, making it the 23rd-largest in the country. Sumy Oblast ( uk, Сумська́ о́бласть, translit=Sumska oblast; also referred to as Sumshchyna – uk, Су́мщина) is an oblast (province) in the northeastern part of Ukraine. Population: The oblast was created in its most recent form, from the merging of raions from Kharkiv Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast, and Poltava Oblast in 1939 by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. The administrative center of the oblast is the city of Sumy. Other important cities within the oblast include Konotop, Okhtyrka, Romny, and Shostka. Roman Catholic Deanery Of Sumy
The Roman Catholic Deanery of Sumy is a part of the Diocese of Kharkiv-Zaporizhzhia of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine. It includes four north-eastern Ukrainian towns, Sumy, Romny, Konotop and Shostka. The center of the deanery is located on the high right bank of the Psel River (left tributary of the Dnieper), in one of the old districts in the heart of the ancient Ukrainian capital Sumy. In the Middle Ages, the town was annexed by the possessions of the Orthodox monastery of St. Sophronius of the Wilderness (near Putivl). The unique cave priory, founded by the first Greek missionaries who came to Kievan Rus' from Byzantine, was razed almost to the ground in the 1960s by communists. Sumy Airport
Sumy Airport is a state international airport located in Sumy, Ukraine. It has become international since 8 December 2006. The airport is capable of accepting such aircraft as the Tu-134 (with limitations), An-24, Yak-40, and aircraft of lower classes round-the-clock. The capacity of the airport terminal is 100 passengers per hour. As of August 2008, there are no flights scheduled from the capital Kyiv. The airport hosts car shows. Sumy (Ukrainian: Суми) is a railway station in Sumy, Ukraine. It is a major freight and passenger station, the main one of the Sumy Directorate of Southern Railways on the Bilopillya-Basy line. It is located in the north of Kovpakivskyi District of Sumy. History The construction of the railway from Vorozhba to Merefa in 1877 can be considered the beginning of the history of the Sumy-Pasazhyrskyi station, as this was when its foundation was laid. In 1878, the sound of a steam locomotive was heard for the first time at the station, which marked the beginning of the rapid economic and cultural development of the city of Sumy. Soumaïla Konaré (born 22 July 1991), commonly known as Sumy, is a Malian footballer who plays for Gibraltar National League side Lynx as a midfielder. Club career Born in Kati, Sumy joined Albacete Balompié's youth setup in 2009 from Mora CF. Sumaya Maria Sadurni Carrasco (August 30, 1989 – 7 March 2022), also known as Sumy Sadurni, was a Spanish-Mexican photographer who worked as a photojournalist based in Kampala, Uganda. Early life and education Sadurni was born in Santiago, Chile, of Mexican and Spanish descent. Her parents are Jorge Jose Sadurni Jammal and Maria Del Carmen DeCet Carrasco. She was raised in Chile, lived in Mexico, and attended high school at the International School of Lausanne in Switzerland. Battle Of Sumy
The battle of Sumy was a military engagement which began on 24 February 2022, during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, as part of the Northeastern Ukraine offensive, and ended on 4 April 2022 when Russia withdrew all of its forces from Sumy Oblast. On 24 February 2022, the Russian army nearly captured Sumy, located near the Russia–Ukraine border, with little initial resistance. Ukrainian soldiers and militia began engaging the Russian forces within the city, resulting in heavy urban fighting. On 4 April 2022, Governor of Sumy Oblast Dmytro Zhyvytskyi stated that Russian troops no longer occupied any towns or villages in Sumy Oblast and had mostly withdrawn, while Ukrainian troops were working to push out the remaining units.

Football Club Sumy is an association football club based in Sumy, Ukraine. It was formed when LSG Syrovatka adopted the new name FC Sumy and a variation of the city's coat of arms for its logo.
