Summit
A summit is a point on a surface that is higher in elevation than all points immediately adjacent to it. The topographic terms acme, apex, peak (mountain peak), and zenith are synonymous. The term (mountain top) is generally used only for a mountain peak that is located at some distance from the nearest point of higher elevation. For example, a big, massive rock next to the main summit of a mountain is not considered a summit. Summits near a higher peak, with some prominence or isolation, but not reaching a certain cutoff value for the quantities, are often considered ''subsummits'' (or ''subpeaks'') of the higher peak, and are considered part of the same mountain. A pyramidal peak is an exaggerated form produced by ice erosion of a mountain top. For summits that are permanently covered in significant layers of ice, the height may be measured by the highest point of rock (rock height) or the highest point of permanent solid ice (snow height). Summit is a village within the town of Coventry, Rhode Island. Lake Summit is a natural freshwater lake in Winter Haven, Florida. It has a surface area and is somewhat oval in shape. It has two small coves on its north side. Summit Camp, also known as Summit Station, is a year-round staffed research station near the apex of the Greenland ice sheet. The station is located at above sea level. Summit is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 8,270 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.09 square miles (13.2 km2), all of it land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 8,041 people, 2,990 households, and 2,272 families living in the CDP. The population density was 1,556.4 people per square mile (600.5/km2). There were 3,090 housing units at an average density of 598.1/sq mi (230.8/km2).
