Semyon Aranovich
Semyon Davidovich Aranovich (Russian: Семён Дави́дович Арано́вич, 23 July 1934, Derazhnya, Ukraine, Soviet Union – 8 September 1996, Hamburg, Germany) was a Soviet and Russian film director. Life and career Aranovich attended the Supreme Naval Aviation School in Nikolaev, graduating in 1955, and served for two years in the Soviet naval aviation troops. In 1965, he graduated from VGIK, where he studied under Roman Karmen. While working at the Leningrad Documentary Studio in 1965–1970, Aranovich directed the biographical ''Time That Is Always with Us'' (1965) and ''The Friend of Gorky’s — Andreeva'' (1966), among other works. Two of his documentaries—one about Maksim Gorky’s last years, made in 1967, and one co-directed with Aleksandr Sokurov on Dmitri Shostakovich (1980) — were shelved and only released during the Perestroika. Igor Fokin
Igor Fokin (June 14, 1960 – September 21, 1996) was a Russian puppeteer and street performer. He learned his craft in his hometown of St. Petersburg. He moved from the former Soviet Union to Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the United States, in 1993. He was able to bring his wife and son over in 1994, and was also granted a visa which allowed him to continue to live and perform in the United States. He performed puppet shows on summer evenings on street corners in Cambridge. He used wooden marionettes set to traditional Russian music. The marionettes were carved and painted by him, and he also sewed the marionettes' clothing. In 1996, he performed shows as part of the festivities at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. He died early in the morning from heart failure on September 21, 1996, at the age of 36, just a few hours after returning home from a show in Harvard Square. Oleg Nikolayevich Karavaichuk (russian: Оле́г Никола́евич Каравайчу́к; 28 December 1927 – 13 June 2016) was a Soviet and Russian composer, author of music for many films and theater performances. Biography Karavaychuk was born on 28 December 1927 in Kyiv, into the family of a violinist who was arrested when Oleg was two years old. From early childhood, he composed music. He attended the School of Music at the Leningrad State Conservatory where he was under mentorship from Dmitri Shostakovich and Sviatoslav Richter, from which he graduated in 1945. In March 1943, he took part in a concert of young musicians in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Conservatory in Tashkent.
