Sulu Gollumshark
The Sulu gollumshark (''Gollum suluensis'') is a species of ground shark in the family Pseudotriakidae, found off Palawan Island in the southern Philippines. This recently discovered species was discovered at a fish market in Palawan during a project led by the World Wildlife Fund during the 1990s to investigate elasmobranch biodiversity in the area. The Sulu gollumshark derives its name from the Sulu Sea in the Philippines. Carcharhiniformes
Carcharhiniformes , the ground sharks, are the largest order of sharks, with over 270 species. They include a number of common types, such as catsharks, swellsharks, and the sandbar shark. Members of this order are characterized by the presence of a nictitating membrane over the eye, two dorsal fins, an anal fin, and five gill slits. The families in the order Carcharhiniformes are expected to be revised; recent DNA studies show that some of the conventional groups are not monophyletic. The oldest members of the order appeared during the Middle-Late Jurassic, which have teeth and bodyforms that are morphologically similar to living catsharks. Palawan Island
Palawan is the largest island of the province of Palawan in the Philippines and fifth-largest by area and tenth-most populous island of the country, with a total population of 994,101 as of 2020 census. Elasmobranchii () is a subclass of Chondrichthyes or cartilaginous fish, including sharks (superorder Selachii), rays, skates, and sawfish (superorder Batoidea). The slender smooth-hound or gollumshark (''Gollum attenuatus'') is a species of ground shark in the family Pseudotriakidae.
