Sulamita Aronovsky
Sulamita Aronovsky, born in Lithuania in 1929, died in 2022, is a classical pianist and piano teacher who spent her formative years in Russia, moving to London in 1971. Her teachers include Lev Barenboim, Abram Schatzkes, Grigory Ginsburg and Alexander Goldenweiser. An experienced Juror of International Competitions, she founded the London International Piano Competition in 1991. She is now Professor of Piano at the Royal Academy of Music and currently resides in London. Amir Katz
Amir Katz, born 1973 in Ramat Gan, Israel, is an Israeli German pianist. He began to play the piano at the age of 11 and won his first national competitions in Israel four years later. He received scholarships to study in Europe, including at the International Piano Foundation at Lake Como, where he had lessons with Leon Fleisher, Karl Ulrich Schnabel and Murray Perahia. These led him to Munich, Germany, where he finished his studies with Elisso Wirssaladse and Michael Schäfer. Toby Purser
Toby Purser (born 28 June 1974) is a British conductor. Early life Born in London, Purser was educated at the independent Winchester College where he was a chorister and music scholar. Purser read music at Oxford University, setting up the Oxford Philomusica and conducting the Oxford Sinfonietta. Purser studied conducting at Royal Academy of Music. Nicholas Michael Angelich (December 14, 1970 – April 18, 2022) was an American pianist. He was noted for performing internationally with ensembles from Europe and North America. Early life Angelich was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 14, 1970. His father, Borivoje Andjelitch, was a violinist; his mother, Clara Kadarjan, was a piano teacher who was originally from Russia. They met while studying at the Academy of Music, Belgrade, and he anglicized their family name to Angelich after they emigrated to the United States during the 1960s. Jonathan Powell (musician)
Jonathan Powell (born 1969) is a British pianist and self-taught composer. Biography Powell studied with Denis Matthews and Sulamita Aronovsky. He made his performing debut at the age of 20 in the Purcell Room in London. His repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary works, including composers as varied as Michael Finnissy, John White, Marco Ambrosini, Johannes Maria Staud and Christophe Sirodeau. He specialises in the works of the late Romantic era, including Russian music and Alexander Scriabin, on whose impact on Russian composers he wrote a dissertation at Cambridge University. Nicolas Hodges (born 1970, in London) is a pianist living in Germany. Early years Nicolas Hodges was born into a musical family. His mother sang in the BBC Singers, including under Boulez in works by Nono. His father was a keen amateur musician, and at one time a BBC Studio Manager.
