Sulaiman Laiq
Sulaiman Layeq ( ps, سليمان لايق, sometimes also Romanised as Laeq or Laiq) (12 October 1930 - 31 July 2020) was an Afghan politician, ideologue and poet who held the positions of President of the Academy of Sciences, full member of the Afghan Politburo, and Minister of Nationalities and Tribal Affairs. Biography Initially a student of the College of Theology, he graduated from the College of Literature in 1958. Laeq was a poet and writer in Pashtu and Dari. During 1957–68, Laeq held different posts in the national controlled media. One of his sisters was married to Mir Akbar Khyber (a leading leftist ideologue whose murder in 1978 started the Saur Revolution); another sister was married to Sibghatullah Mojaddedi (who would later become President of Afghanistan). People's Democratic Party Of Afghanistan
The People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA), ''Hezb-e dimūkrātĩk-e khalq-e Afghānistān'' was a Marxist–Leninist political party in Afghanistan established on 1 January 1965. Four members of the party won seats in the 1965 Afghan parliamentary election, reduced to two seats in 1969, albeit both before parties were fully legal. For most of its existence, the party was split between the hardline ''Khalq'' and moderate ''Parcham'' factions, each of which claimed to represent the "true" PDPA. The party originally followed leftist and Marxist–Leninist ideals. Despite its orientation, the party did not describe itself as "communist", instead using labels such as " national democratic" and "socialist". In its final years, the party gradually moved away from Marxism–Leninism and towards Afghan nationalism. "''Garam shah lā garam shah''" ( ps, گرم شه، لا گرم شه, lit=Be ardent, be more ardent) was the national anthem of Afghanistan from 1978 to 1992, during the period of one-party socialist rule. History Its lyrics were written by Sulaiman Laiq on behalf of the government of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan (PDPA) headed by Nur Muhammad Taraki, who decided to change the national symbols after the Saur Revolution of 1978. The music was composed by Jalīl Ghahlānd and was arranged by Ustad Salim Sarmad. Like many national anthems, it was sometimes sung abbreviated with only the chorus and the first stanza. In 1987, Afghanistan officially abandoned communism but this song was kept as the national anthem until 1992, when it was discontinued.
