Suede
Suede (pronounced ) is a type of leather with a fuzzy, napped finish, commonly used for jackets, shoes, fabrics, purses, furniture, and other items. The term comes from the French , which literally means "gloves from Sweden". The term was first used by ''The Oxford English Dictionary'' in 1884. Suede is made from the underside of the animal skin, which is softer and more pliable than the outer skin layer, though not as durable. Production Suede leather is made from the underside of the skin, primarily from lamb, although goat, calf, and deer are commonly used. Splits from thick hides of cow and deer are also sueded, but, due to the fiber content, have a shaggy nap. Characteristics Because suede does not include the tough exterior skin layer, it is less durable, but softer, than the standard "full-grain" leather. Suede (also known in the US as The London Suede) are an English rock band formed in London in 1989 by singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Justine Frischmann, and bass player Mat Osman. Drawing inspiration from glam rock and post-punk, Suede were dubbed "The Best New Band in Britain" by ''Melody Maker'' in 1992, and attracted much attention from the British music press. The following year their debut album ''Suede'' went to the top of the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years. It won the Mercury Music Prize and helped foster 'Britpop' as a musical movement, though the band distanced themselves from the term. ''Suede'' is the debut album by English alternative rock band Suede, released in March 1993 on Nude Records. It was recorded in London at Master Rock studios late 1992 and early 1993 and was produced by Ed Buller. At the time the fastest-selling debut album in British history in almost a decade, ''Suede'' debuted at the top of the UK Albums Chart, won the 1993 Mercury Music Prize, and is often cited as one of the first Britpop records. Displaying a sound of Britishness and glam rock, its music and lyrical content has been compared to The Smiths and early David Bowie. The album was preceded by what ''Rolling Stone'' called "its triptych of instantly classic singles." "Suede" is a song by Los Angeles-based duo NxWorries, released as the lead single of their debut Extended play, EP, ''Link Up & Suede''. The song premiered on February 10, 2015, on Stones Throw Records' SoundCloud page and was made available for purchase at the Stones Throw Store and iTunes Store along with the EP's release on December 4, 2015. The song contains a slowed-down sample of "The Bottle" as written and performed by Gil Scott-Heron. The song became a viral hit, with more than a million SoundCloud listens and nearly as many YouTube plays. Vocalist Anderson .Paak played the track to hip hop mogul Dr. Dre during sessions of the latter's Compton (album), ''Compton'' album. ''To Venus and Back'' is a double album by American singer, songwriter and pianist Tori Amos. Released on September 21, 1999, it comprises her fifth studio album and first live album. The first disc, entitled ''Venus: Orbiting'', shows Amos increasingly experimenting with elements of electronica and trip hop, and spawned the singles "Bliss" (which peaked at number 91 on the '' Billboard'' Hot 100), "1000 Oceans", " Glory of the 80's", and "Concertina". Suede is an American pop and jazz singer. A well known artist in the LGBTQ community, she has an entry in ''An Encyclopaedia of Gay and Lesbian Recordings'' (1992). Life and career She was born in Nyack, New York, moved around throughout childhood from NY to the midwest and back, graduating from senior high school in Severna Park, Maryland before college at Wartburg College in Iowa. Self-taught since childhood and until college, she started at the approximate age of 4 years old on the piano, began busking music in high school, getting bar gigs before she even graduated. She lived in Baltimore for the majority of the 1980s and became a fixture at many local clubs in the Baltimore, DC, VA, PA circuit and beyond as she began to build her national touring schedule.
