A sub transmission for automotive transmission mechanics is an extra manual or automatic transmission that is independent of the main transmission. In a four-wheel drive, an extra gear stick is often provided to transfer torque when needed and to put the vehicle into low range. Propulsion transmission is the mode of transmitting and controlling propulsion power of a machine. The term ''transmission'' properly refers to the whole drivetrain, including clutch, gearbox, prop shaft (for rear-wheel drive vehicles), differential, and final drive shafts. In the United States the term is sometimes used in casual speech to refer more specifically to the gearbox alone, and detailed usage differs. The transmission reduces the higher engine speed to the slower wheel speed, increasing torque in the process. Transfer Case
A transfer case is a part of the drivetrain of four-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive, and other multiple powered axle vehicles. The transfer case transfers power from the transmission to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts. It also synchronizes the difference between the rotation of the front and rear wheels, and may contain one or more sets of low range gears for off-road use. The Honda CB900C is a cruiser motorcycle produced by Honda from 1980 to 1982 primarily for the American market.Rider Magazine, March 1980 It was succeeded by the CB1000C in 1983. The Mitsubishi Cordia is a compact car, compact hatchback-coupé manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors between 1982 and 1990. Mitsubishi Super Shift Transmission
The Super Shift transmission, also marketed as Twin-Stick, was a manual transaxle transmission developed by Mitsubishi Motors in the late 1970s and used in a limited number of the company's road cars, most of which were manufactured in the 1980s. It was unusual in that it had 8 forward speeds in a 4x2 arrangement. It essentially installed a "married" overdrive unit to its manual transmission, something rare in a production vehicle of this type.
