Steen & Strøm is a Scandinavian retail and real estate company that owns and operates 52 shopping centres in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In 2006 the shopping centers had 3,300 lessees with total revenue of about NOK 40 billion. It has been a member of the International Association of Department Stores from 1940 to 1992, with various CEOs acting as presidents of the Association over time. History The company was founded in 1797 when Samuel Strøm started a wine shop and general store in Oslo. When he died in 1818, the store was taken over by his widow Else Strøm, then their common son Christian Strøm in 1829. In 1856 Christian Strøm, shortly before his death, passed it on to his nephew and adoptive son Samuel Strøm Jr. (son of Søren Strøm) and the husband of his adoptive daughter (Ovidia born Jebe) Emil Steen. Hans Strøm
Hans Strøm (25 January 1726 – 1 February 1797) was a Norwegian clergyman. He also became a prominent zoologist and naturalist. He is best associated with his topographical description of the traditional district of Sunnmøre. Life Hans Strøm was born at Borgund in Møre og Romsdal, Norway. His father was a clergyman and many other relatives of both his father and mother were ministers. He attended the Bergen Cathedral School. He was educated as a Lutheran clergyman and in 1745 took a theological degree at the University of Copenhagen. Then he worked from 1750 to 1764 as chaplain in Borgund. In 1764 he became parish priest, first in Volda where he served until 1779, when he went to Eiker where he served as Vicar for 18 years. He died at Hokksund in Øvre Eiker in Buskerud. Anne-Grete Strøm-Erichsen
Anne-Grete Hjelle Strøm-Erichsen (born 21 October 1949 in Bergen) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She served as Minister of Defence from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2012 to 2013. She also served as Minister of Health and Care Services from 2009 to 2012. In local politics, she served as the Mayor of Bergen from 1999 to 2000 and its first Chief Commissioner from 2000 to 2003. Harald Strøm
Harald Strøm (14 October 1897 – 25 December 1977) was a Norwegian speed skater, world champion, European champion and world record holder on 5000 metres. He was also a football player, national champion with his club, and playing for the national football team. Speed skating He set his first speed skating world record on 5000m in 1921 (8:27.7), being the first to break the magic 8:30. He improved his own record in 1922 (8:26.5). Kaare Strøm (limnologist)
Kaare Knutsson Münster Strøm (from 1949 only Kaare Strøm; 23 July 1902 – 28 February 1967) was a Norwegian limnologist. He was born in Nord-Aurdal as a son of pharmacist Knut Thorstensen Strøm (1863–1938) and his wife Marianne Münster (1870–1943). He was a grandson of Christian Münster. He grew up in Kristiania, finished his secondary education at Frogner already in 1918, and began as a private student of Nordal Wille. He took the dr.philos. degree at the Royal Frederick University in 1927 on the thesis ''Norwegian Mountain Algae''. He spent some time studying under August Thienemann, and was a research fellow at the university from 1931 to 1936. He was promoted to docent in 1939 and professor in 1948. Halfdan Strøm
Halfdan Strøm (4 November 1863 – 28 March 1949) was a Norwegian painter and an early representative of realism in Norwegian painting. He attended the Royal Drawing School in Christiania (nor Oslo). In 1883, he debuted at the Industrial and Art Exhibition at Tullinløkka, site of the Norwegian Geographical Survey in Oslo. During the period 1883–84, he was in Munich. During 1884, he participated in an outdoor academy conducted by Frits Thaulow in Modum. In 1889, he entered two paintings at the World Exhibition in Paris and achieved an honorable mention. Later Strøm earned gold medals at the World Exhibition of Paris in 1900, as well as international exhibits in Munich in 1901 and San Francisco in 1915. Strøm was a professor at the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts from 1909 to 1935, and Director there from 1924. Sivert Christensen Strøm (August 9, 1819 – 13 November 1902) was a Norwegian jurist and politician. He was born at Øyestad (now Arendal) in Aust-Agder to captain Christen Nielsen Strøm. Tarjei Strøm
Tarjei Frugård Strøm (born October 26, 1978 in Bergen, Norway) is a drummer for the Norwegian rock groups Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band and Datarock. He also co-hosted the radio show 'Sexy' on Norwegian radio channel NRK P3, along with Totto Mjelde. Bands Ralph Myerz and The Jack Herren Band The band was formed in 1997 when Erlend Sellevold asked for people to play percussion with him during a party in Bergen. Thomas Lønnheim and Tarjei Strøm showed up through a combination of mutual contacts and high-school friendship. Supposedly a one-time-event, they had so much fun playing together that they decided to form a band, and Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band was formed. Kristian Strøm
Kristian Strøm (24 December 1892 – 10 November 1980) was a Norwegian speedskater. He set a world record in 5000 m in 1917, when he improved Oscar Mathisen's previous record in Trondheim. This record lasted four years, until it was beaten by Harald Strøm in 1921. Strøm became national all-round champion in 1916, 1917, 1919 and 1920, and took five King's Cups. Roger Strøm (born 28 July 1966 in Sandefjord) is a Norwegian speed skater. Strøm was Norway's best speed skating sprinter during the 1990s. His best seasons were from 1994 to 1997. During the 1994 Olympics he finished 7th over 1000 metres, but failed to qualify in the 500 m. Tor-Arne Strøm (born 6 May 1952, in Rana) is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He was elected to the Norwegian Parliament from Nordland in 2001, and has been re-elected on two occasions.
