Straight From The Heart (Doolally Song)
"Straight from the Heart" is the debut single of UK garage duo Doolally, later known as Shanks & Bigfoot, with vocals provided by Sharon Woolf. The song was first released in 1998, and reached the top 20 in the United Kingdom, peaking at No. 20. After the success of their UK number-one single " Sweet Like Chocolate" the following year, "Straight from the Heart" was re-released and peaked at No. 9 on the UK Singles Chart. The song also reached No. 1 on the UK Dance Singles Chart in both 1998 and 1999. In 2018, the House & Garage Orchestra featuring Shelley Nelson on vocals recorded an orchestral version for the UK garage covers album ''Garage Classics''. Shanks & Bigfoot
Shanks & Bigfoot were a British duo of UK garage producers Steven Meade and Danny Langsman, known principally for their single " Sweet like Chocolate", which topped the UK Singles Chart in 1999. They were originally known as Doolally, recording the pirate anthem " Straight from the Heart" under this name in 1998. Upon its first release, "Straight from the Heart" peaked at number twenty on the UK chart. It was subsequently re-released in 1999 on the back of their chart success with "Sweet Like Chocolate", and reached number nine on the chart. Success The single " Sweet Like Chocolate" was a success even before commercial release, receiving months of club play before debuting at number one on the UK Singles Chart, where it remained for two weeks. Much to the surprise of the duo, the song became one of the most popular singles of the late 1990s. The single went on to become Britain's eighth-biggest selling single of 1999. Garage Classics
''Garage Classics'' is the debut album by the House & Garage Orchestra, released on 30 November 2018 on the New State Music label. It was released on CD and as a digital download. The album was produced by Darren Tate and Alex Mereier (Shy Cookie), and contains orchestral covers of classic UK garage tracks with appearances from Kele Le Roc, Sweet Female Attitude, Shola Ama, Shelley Nelson, MC Neat, Tough Love and more. Touring To promote the album, the House & Garage Orchestra toured and performed live shows around the UK in venues such as the Albert Hall in Manchester, Tramshed in Cardiff, Liverpool Olympia, Brighton Dome, Portsmouth Guildhall, KOKO, Shepherd's Bush Empire and the Roundhouse, and continue to do so having performed throughout 2021 and with scheduled concerts planned for 2022. Tuff Jam are a British DJ, music production and remixing duo consisting of Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown and Matt 'Jam' Lamont. They began working together in 1993, and were instrumental in developing the UK garage sound. They presented a radio show on London's Kiss 100 from 1997 until 2000. Biography Karl 'Tuff Enuff' Brown and Matt 'Jam' Lamont began working together in 1993 after meeting at the London club The Arches, where Lamont had a DJ residency. Brown had previously been in the group Double Trouble, who enjoyed chart success with singles such as " Street Tuff". They are described as having a "pivotal involvement in the development of the UK underground garage scene." They presented a radio show on London's Kiss FM from 1997 until 2000. Shelley Nelson is an English singer and songwriter from London, best known as the vocalist on the two top 20 hits by Tin Tin Out, "Here's Where the Story Ends" and "Sometimes", as well as the UK garage top 40 hit by Ed Case, "Something in Your Eyes". She has provided vocals on a large number of songs by different artists, including the 2001 duet with Chris de Burgh, "Two Sides to Every Story". UK Garage
UK garage, abbreviated as UKG, is a genre of electronic dance music which originated in England in the early to mid-1990s. The genre was most clearly inspired by garage house, but also incorporates elements from dance-pop, R&B, and jungle. It is defined by percussive, shuffled rhythms with syncopated hi-hats, cymbals, and snares, and may include either 4/4 house kick patterns or more irregular " 2-step" rhythms. Garage tracks also commonly feature 'chopped up' and time-stretched or pitch-shifted vocal samples complementing the underlying rhythmic structure at a tempo usually around 130 BPM. UK garage encompassed subgenres such as speed garage and 2-step, and was then largely subsumed into other styles of music and production in the mid-2000s, including bassline, grime, and dubstep.
