''Stowaway'' is a 2021 science fiction thriller drama film directed by Joe Penna, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Morrison. The film stars Anna Kendrick, Daniel Dae Kim, Shamier Anderson, and Toni Collette. A co-production of the United States and Germany, it premiered on Netflix in select countries on April 22, 2021. Plot The crew of MTS-42, a two-year mission to Mars, consists of Mission Commander Marina Barnett, biologist David Kim, and medical researcher Zoe Levenson. A solar flare is an intense localized eruption of electromagnetic radiation in the Sun's atmosphere.
