Storm (Heather Nova Album)
''Storm'' is the fifth studio album by Heather Nova, released in 2003 as the follow-up to ''South'' (2001). It was her first independent record since departing from the label V2 Records; Nova financed the album herself and released it in a handful of countries. The large United States market was not included, but in 2007, Nova reported on her official website that she was working out a way to distribute her releases in America. The album itself was a collaboration with the band Mercury Rev. The track "Let's Not Talk About Love" features vocals from French artist Benjamin Biolay. Heather Nova (born Heather Allison Frith, July 6, 1968) is a Bermuda, Bermudian singer-songwriter and poet. , she has released eleven full-length albums, six EPs and twelve singles. Biography Heather Nova was born Heather Allison Frith on Bermuda, a British overseas territory. Her mother is a native of Nova Scotia, Canada, and her father is a native of Bermuda. Nova spent most of her childhood with her family, including one sister, television reporter and fashion model Susannah, and one brother, reggae singer Mishka (musician), Mishka, on a sailboat (named ''Moon'') built by her father, where the Friths spent most of the 1970s and part of the 1980s, sailing throughout the Atlantic and Caribbean waters and coasts. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Big Cat Records is a British independent record label. It launched around 1990 and originally specialized in industrial and noise-rock releases. South (Heather Nova Album)
''South'' is the fourth studio album by Heather Nova. There were two versions of this album—the original release on December 11, 2001, and an American release on May 21, 2002. The US release contained one extra track, "Welcome", which also appeared on the 2005 album ''Redbird''. "Virus of the Mind" was released as a single in the United States. The album was recorded in London, New York, Sweden and Los Angeles and featured Bernard Butler on some of the tracks. For this album, Nova also recorded a contemporary-styled cover of the standard "Gloomy Sunday", a song originally made popular by Billie Holiday. In retrospect, Nova found the album to be far too polished and not entirely to her liking. ''Redbird'' is the sixth studio album by Heather Nova, released on August 30, 2005. The album includes a cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game". The first track, "Welcome", was also released in 2005 as a single in Europe. "Welcome" also appeared on the U.S./Canadian release of ''South''. V2 Records (or V2 Music; V2 being an abbreviation for Virgin 2) is a record label that was purchased by Universal Music Group in 2007 and sold to IASin 2013. In the Benelux, V2 operates separately from PIAS, as the label bought itself out from Universal in 2007. History The label was founded in 1996 by Richard Branson, five years after he sold Virgin Records to EMI. V2 management was led by the same individuals that built Branson's renowned balloon and the control position was held by a Canadian public corporation. The company was restructured after running into financial difficulties with Branson taking control and reinventing the brand. He is the brother of singer Coralie Clément—whose first three albums he wrote and produced—and the ex-husband of Chiara Mastroianni, the daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni. His low-key vocal style is somewhat similar to French pop star Étienne Daho.
