Stockholm County
Stockholm County ( sv, Stockholms län, link=no ) is a county or '' län'' (in Swedish) on the Baltic Sea coast of Sweden. It borders Uppsala County and Södermanland County. It also borders Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. The city of Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. Stockholm County is divided by the historic provinces of Uppland (Roslagen) and Södermanland (Södertörn). More than one fifth of the Swedish population lives in the county. Stockholm County is also one of the statistical '' riksområden'' (national areas) according to NUTS:SE, Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics within the EU. Counties Of Sweden
The counties of Sweden (Swedish: ''Sveriges län'') are the top-level geographic subdivisions of Sweden. Sweden is today divided into 21 counties; however, the number of counties has varied over time, due to territorial gains/losses and to divisions and/or mergers of existing counties. This level of administrative unit was first established in the 1634 Instrument of Government on Lord Chancellor Count Axel Oxenstierna's initiative, and superseded the historical provinces of Sweden ( sv, landskap) in order to introduce a more efficient administration of the realm. At that time, they were what the translation of ''län'' into English literally means: fiefdoms. Sigtuna Municipality
Sigtuna Municipality (''Sigtuna kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Märsta, approximately north of the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The municipality is a part of Metropolitan Stockholm. The municipality consists of several former local government units and was formed in 1971. It got its name from the small, but very old, ''City of Sigtuna'', but the seat was placed in the larger modern town of Märsta. The three towns of the municipality are Märsta (pop. 23,000), Sigtuna (pop. 8,000) and Rosersberg (pop. 1,400), of which Märsta is the municipal seat and Sigtuna with its old and important history is a popular tourist destination. Sven-Erik Österberg
Sven-Erik Österberg (born 10 March 1955 in Munktorp, Västmanland, Sweden) is a Swedish official and former social-democratic politician. He is Governor of Stockholm County since 1 February 2018 and previously served as Governor of Norrbotten County from 1 October 2012 to 31 January 2018. Österberg was Minister for Financial Markets from 2004 to 2006. Vaxholm Municipality
Vaxholm Municipality (''Vaxholms kommun'' or ''Vaxholms stad'') is a municipality within Stockholm archipelago in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. The municipal slogan is "Vaxholm – the capital of the archipelago", due to its central location in the archipelago. Its seat is located in the city of Vaxholm. From 1974 to 1984 Vaxholm was united with Österåker Municipality, making up a municipality called Vaxholm, but with the seat in Åkersberga. After the "divorce" the new Vaxholm Municipality came out larger than it had been before the amalgamation. Värmdö Municipality
Värmdö Municipality (''Värmdö kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is in the town of Gustavsberg, with a population of 9,682 (2005), on the main island at an elevation of . The municipality is named after the main island Värmdön, in size. The municipality in its present form was created in 1974, when "old" Värmdö was amalgamated with Gustavsberg (which had been detached from it in 1902) and Djurö. Geography The municipality consists of 10,000 islands, all part of Stockholm archipelago. The larger islands are Värmdö, Ingarö, Fågelbrolandet, Djurö/Vindö, Svartsö, Möja, Runmarö and Nämdö. Vallentuna Municipality (''Vallentuna kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Vallentuna. The current municipality was established as a result of the municipal reform of 1971. Its coat of arms depicts an eagle, a broad axe and two stars. Upplands-Bro Municipality
Upplands-Bro Municipality (''Upplands-Bro kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Kungsängen. The municipality was formed in 1952 through the amalgamation of five rural municipalities in Uppsala County. In 1971 it was transferred to Stockholm County. Upplands Väsby Municipality
Upplands Väsby Municipality (''Upplands Väsby kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden, with a population of 38,963 (2010). Its seat is located in the town of Upplands Väsby. The municipality was created in connection with the municipal reform of 1952, when the rural municipalities ''Ed'', ''Fresta'' and ''Hammarby'' were amalgamated. It got its name from a settlement which had evolved around the railway station. The name Väsby can be attested (as ''Vesby'') from the 13th century. The prefix "Upplands" came to be used by the post station in 1919 as a means of separating it from other Väsbys in the country. Tyresö Municipality
Tyresö Municipality (''Tyresö kommun'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Most of Tyresö Municipality lies within the Stockholm urban area. History The first humans arrived in what today is Tyresö Municipality somewhere around the 3rd millennium BC. It would not be until about the 7th century that permanent settlements would start appearing though. There are some graves and other remnants left from this prehistoric time. Täby Municipality (''Täby kommun'') is a municipality north of Stockholm in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Täby. Täby Municipality can be characterized as a suburb of Stockholm. Sundbyberg Municipality
Sundbyberg Municipality (''Sundbybergs kommun'' or ''Sundbybergs stad'') is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden, just north of the capital Stockholm. Sundbyberg is wholly within the Stockholm urban area and has a 100% urban population. Sundbyberg was detached from Bromma (which since 1916 is in Stockholm Municipality) in 1888 as a market town (''köping''). It got the title of a city in 1927. In 1949 parts of Solna Municipality and Spånga Municipality (when the rest of Spånga was amalgamated into Stockholm) were added.
