Still Life (US Band)
Still Life was an American post-hardcore band originally from Moorpark, California, and then the San Fernando Valley, California. They are credited for helping pioneer the first wave of emo. They started in the late 1980s with the name Monster Club. They changed their name in 1991 after the departure of the original lead singer Rick Rodney who joined the band Strife. They were active until 2003 when all of their instruments were stolen from Chris Pitzel's truck parked on the street in front of their house after a show. Former Members Paul Rauch and David Pitzel have started a new band named Old Ground and continue to use Still Life's label, Sunflower Tribe. Emo (music)
Emo is a rock music genre characterized by emotional, often confessional lyrics. It emerged as a style of and hardcore punk from the Washington D.C. hardcore punk scene, where it was known as emotional hardcore or emocore and pioneered by bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace. In the early–mid 1990s, emo was adopted and reinvented by alternative rock, indie rock and/or punk rock bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Weezer, Cap'n Jazz, and Jimmy Eat World. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. It was initially inspired by post-punk and noise rock. Like post-punk, the term has been applied to a broad constellation of groups. Post-hardcore began in the 1980s with bands like Hüsker Dü and Minutemen (band), Minutemen. The genre expanded in the 1980s and 1990s with releases by bands from cities that had established hardcore scenes, such as Fugazi from Washington, D.C. as well as groups such as Big Black and Jawbox that stuck closer to post-hardcore's noise rock roots. Ebullition Records
Boiling is the rapid vaporization of a liquid, which occurs when a liquid is heated to its boiling point, the temperature at which the vapour pressure of the liquid is equal to the pressure exerted on the liquid by the surrounding atmosphere. There are two main types of boiling: nucleate boiling where small bubbles of vapour form at discrete points, and critical heat flux boiling where the boiling surface is heated above a certain critical temperature and a film of vapor forms on the surface. Transition boiling is an intermediate, unstable form of boiling with elements of both types. Moorpark, California
Moorpark is a city in Ventura County in Southern California. Moorpark was founded in 1900. The town grew from just over 4,000 citizens in 1980 to over 25,000 by 1990. As of 2006, Moorpark was one of the fastest-growing cities in Ventura County.. The population was 34,421 at the 2010 census, up from 31,415 at the 2000 census. Etymology The town most likely was named after the Moorpark apricot, which used to grow in the area (hence the apricot flower on the town's seal and flag). Strife (band)
Strife is an American hardcore punk band from Thousand Oaks, California. They formed in 1991. Biography Their first LP, ''One Truth'', was released in 1994 via Victory Records. Their second album, ''In This Defiance'', was released in 1997 and includes guest appearances, with Chino Moreno of Deftones, Dino Cazares of Fear Factory and Igor Cavalera of Sepultura all taking turns on the album. They broke up two years later citing creative differences and exhaustion. Victory Records released ''Truth Through Defiance'', a compilation of live tracks and previously unreleased material. They reunited in 2000, playing several benefit concerts. By the following year, they had re-formed and released ''Angermeans''. Evergreen (band)
Evergreen was a Southern California underground post-hardcore band from the early-to-mid-1990s. They were influential in the development of emo in the 1990s. They had several releases over their lifespan, including two 7-inches, a split 7-inch with Los Angeles hardcore/screamo band Still Life, and a much sought-after 12-inch, most of which were released on Anomaly Records. They still have a 7-inch out on San Diego's Gravity Records. They are notorious amongst record collectors due to the rarity of the "Seven Songs" LP.
