Sir Steven John Webb (born 18 July 1965) is a British pensions commentator who was previously Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament (MP) for Northavon from 1997 to 2010 and for Thornbury and Yate from 2010 to 2015. He was the Minister of State for Pensions in the coalition government of David Cameron. Background Webb was born in Birmingham to Brian and Patricia Webb, and attended the local comprehensive school, Dartmouth High School, before going on to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Hertford College, Oxford. He then worked at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London, where he specialised in researching into poverty, taxes and benefits. In 1995, he became a Professor of Social Policy at the University of Bath. Steve Webb (born 26 November 1948) is a British medical physicist and writer. He is an emeritus professor of physics at the Joint Department of Physics in the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital. He was editor-in-chief of '' Physics in Medicine and Biology'' for six years, being succeeded in 2011 by Simon Cherry. Biography Steve Webb was born and grew up at Swindon in Wiltshire. He studied at Imperial College London, where he was awarded a BSc in 1970 and a PhD in 1973. The subject of his doctoral studies was cosmic-ray physics. Webb's former colleague Robert Speller, who later became head of radiation physics at University College London, had moved into the field of medical physics. Stephen Webb (born April 30, 1975) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He was picked in the seventh round of the 1994 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He played for the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins between 1996 and 2004 Webb became a fan favorite during the 2001–02 season with the New York Islanders for a number of hard open-ice checks he delivered on opposing players, including Theoren Fleury of the New York Rangers. In the playoffs, Webb established himself with a number of hard hits on numerous Toronto Maple Leafs players. At one point during the playoffs, he made a huge hit on Toronto forward Darcy Tucker seen as retribution for Tucker injuring Isles captain Michael Peca in the previous game.
