Steve Smith (offensive Lineman)
Stephen Conant Smith (born May 29, 1944) is a former American football player. Smith was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended Maine East High School in suburban Chicago. He played college football at the End (American football), end position for the University of Michigan from 1963 to 1965. He was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (71st overall pick) of the 1966 NFL Draft. He played eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL) at the offensive tackle and defensive end positions for the Pittsburgh Steelers (1966), Minnesota Vikings (1968–70), and Philadelphia Eagles (1971–74). He was traded along with second- and sixth-round selections in 1971 NFL Draft, 1971 (50th and 154th overall–Hank Allison and Ole Miss Rebels football, Mississippi defensive back Wyck Neely respectively) and a 1972 NFL Draft, 1972 third-round pick (76th overall–Bobby Majors) from the Vikings to the Eagles for Norm Snead on January 28, 1971. Defensive End
Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man line defense, seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside. When most teams adopted a five-man line, two different styles of end play developed: "crashing" ends, who rushed into the backfield to disrupt plays, and "stand-up" or "waiting" ends, who played the more traditional containment style. 1966 NFL Draft
The 1966 National Football League draft was held at the Summit Hotel in New York City on Saturday, November 27, 1965. The expansion Atlanta Falcons were awarded the first pick in each round as well as the final pick in each of the first five rounds. The first overall selection was Tommy Nobis, a linebacker from Texas. The league also provided the Falcons with an expansion draft six weeks later. This was the last draft in which the NFL and the AFL selected their players separate of one another. As a result, most players drafted by teams from both leagues chose to play for the more established NFL, but not all. Similar to 1965, the AFL draft was held on the same day. Norm Snead
Norman Bailey Snead (born July 31, 1939) is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for the Washington Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for Wake Forest University and was drafted in the first round with the second overall pick of the 1961 NFL Draft. Early life Snead grew up in Newport News, Virginia, the son of Hugh, a farmer, and Louise Snead. He attended Warwick High School, where he was a star three-sport (basketball, football and baseball) athlete. Snead won all six pitching decisions as a sophomore and junior, and he averaged 23 points in basketball as a senior, scoring 41 in one game. He split time as starting quarterback as a junior, then as a senior he passed for nearly 1,000 yards and 13 touchdowns. Bobby Majors
Robert Owen Majors (born July 7, 1949) is a former American football defensive back who played one season with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 1972 NFL Draft. Majors played college football at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He was a consensus All-American in 1971. He was also a member of the Memphis Southmen of the World Football League (WFL). He is the younger brother of former Tennessee head coach Johnny Majors. College career In 1970, Majors set the single-season Tennessee Volunteers record for interceptions with ten and the Volunteers led the NCAA with 36 interceptions. The Ole Miss Rebels football program represents the University of Mississippi, also known as "Ole Miss". The Rebels compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
