Sternschanze Station
Sternschanze is a rapid transit station for the trains of Hamburg S-Bahn lines S11, S21 and S31 and Hamburg U-Bahn line U3. The railway station is located in the quarter Sternschanze in the Hamburg borough of Altona, Germany. North of the railway station is a bus stop for the terminating HHA bus route 181. History A first Sternschanze station was opened on , located a little east of the current station. That station was at grade, with a number of level crossings at nearby streets. On a new, elevated station was built, including a massive station hall. The U-Bahn station followed on . During the 1970s, the S-Bahn's station hall was dismantled. Altona, Hamburg
Altona (), also called Hamburg-Altona, is the westernmost urban borough (''Bezirk'') of the German city state of Hamburg, on the right bank of the Elbe river. From 1640 to 1864, Altona was under the administration of the Danish monarchy. Altona was an independent borough until 1937. In 2016 the population was 270,263. Hamburg-Altona Link Line
The Hamburg-Altona link line (german: Hamburg-Altonaer Verbindungsbahn) is a railway line in Hamburg, Germany. It now connects the lines from the north and west of Hamburg and Altona station with Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and the lines to the south and east. It was initially designed as a freight line only but is it now one of the busiest lines in Germany. It includes the suburban tracks of the Hamburg ''Stadtbahn'', originally the core of the Hamburg S-Bahn. History The first railway connection In 1842 the Hamburg-Bergedorf Railway Company opened a 16.5 km line from Hamburg to Bergedorf. In 1846 this line was extended to Berlin. Two years later, the Altona-Kiel Railway Company opened a line to Kiel.
