''Steppas' Delight'' is a 2008 compilation album by Soul Jazz Records. The album is a compilation of dubstep music from various artists. Background Brandon Ivers of '' XLR8R'' declared that during 2008 "seemingly everyone is releasing some sort of compilation bout dubstepbefore the current run of self-mythologizing has had a chance to stick." Release ''Steppas' Delight'' was initially announced as being released by the end of March 2008. It was released later on May 19 with a release party on May 17 with Kode9, Hatcha, Crazy D, Chef & LD, Geiom, Ikonika, and the Soul Jazz Soundsystem performing at Electrowerkz in the UK. The album was released on compact disc and vinyl record. A follow-up, titled ''Steppas' Delight 2'', was released on September 28, 2009. Dubstep
Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London in the early 2000s. Silkie (artist)
Solomon Rose, better known as Silkie, is a British dubstep and grime record producer and DJ from Hammersmith, West London. Biography Having first produced UK garage and grime tracks in the early 2000s, Silkie came to prominence a few years later when he linked up with Antisocial Entertainment, who had started a show on Rinse FM. From there, he began to put out dubstep tracks on Antisocial as well as Deep Medi Musik. In 2009, he released his first album, ''City Limits Volume 1'', which attracted positive reviews from Pitchfork. This was followed up shortly after by ''City Limits Volume 2'' in 2011. Liam Sylvester McLean (born 30 January 1989), better known by his stage name Joker, is a British record producer who creates music in genres such as dubstep and grime and was known for creating the subgenre " purple sound". He was named "2009 king of bass music" by ''XLR8R'' magazine and was featured in the September 2009 issue of '' The Wire'' magazine. He has contributed to two releases produced by the London-based record company Hyperdub. He also runs his own label known as Kapsize Recordings. Kevin Martin (British Musician)
Kevin Richard Martin, often known under his recording alias The Bug, is an English musician and music producer. Martin moved from Weymouth to London around 1990 and is now currently based in mainland Europe. He has been active for over two decades in the genres of dub, jazzcore, industrial hip hop, dancehall, and dubstep. Martin's projects include GOD, Techno Animal, Ice, Curse of the Golden Vampire, Pressure and, most recently, King Midas Sound (with poet Roger Robinson and singer/visual artist Kiki Hitomi) and The Bug vs Earth. Chris Reed (born 30 October 1982), also known as Plastician (formerly Plasticman), is an electronic musician from Thornton Heath in the London Borough of Croydon. History Plastician, real name Chris Reed is a DJ from Croydon in South London. He began playing UK garage records in 2000, playing early shows in the local area of Croydon. Reed began to take interest in the darker side of the sound, specialising in sets featuring tracks from the likes of Wookie, Zed Bias, El-B, Groove Chronicles, Steve Gurley and working alongside MCs Tricks & Spellz as part of the "Fearless Crew". Adegbenga Adejumo (born 1986), known as Benga, is a British musician from Croydon, known for being a pioneer of dubstep record production. He has been featured on a variety of compilations including Mary Anne Hobbs's '' Warrior Dubz'', Tempa's ''The Roots of Dubstep'' and the BBC Radio 1Xtra anniversary mix. Career Adejumo is of Yoruba Nigerian descent. Inspired by UK garage producer Wookie, Benga would produce tunes on a PlayStation, and subsequently FruityLoops. Sam Shackleton, better known by his stage name Shackleton, is an English electronic producer and founder of the record labels Skull Disco and Woe to the Septic Heart!. History Sam Shackleton was born in Lancashire, England.
