Stephen Phillips
Stephen Phillips (28 July 1864 – 9 December 1915) was an English poet and dramatist, who enjoyed considerable popularity early in his career. Biography He was born at Somertown near Oxford, the son of the Rev. Stephen Phillips, precentor of Peterborough Cathedral. He was educated at Stratford and Peterborough Grammar Schools, and considered entering Queens' College, Cambridge on a minor scholarship to study classics; but he instead went to a London crammer to prepare for the civil service. In 1885, however, he moved to Wolverhampton to join his cousin F. R. Benson's dramatic company, and for six years he played various small parts. In 1890 a slender volume of verse was published at Oxford with the title ''Primavera'', which contained contributions by him and by his cousin Laurence Binyon and others. Stephen Phillips, is a British-born American architect, theorist, and educator based in Los Angeles, California. Phillips is the principal of Stephen Phillips Architects (SPARCHS) and Professor of Architecture at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Education and early career Born in Oxford, England, Phillips was raised in Loughton, Essex; Berkeley Heights, New Jersey; and Pasadena, California. Stephen James Phillips (born 9 March 1970) is a British Conservative Party politician, barrister and recorder (part-time Crown Court judge). Sir Stephen Edmund Phillips (born 10 October 1961), styled The Rt. Hon. Lord Justice Phillips, is a judge of the Court of Appeal having previously served as a judge of the High Court of England and Wales. He was educated at The King's School, Chester, and University College, Oxford. He was called to the bar by Gray's Inn in 1984 and became a bencher there in 2006. Stephen Henry Phillips (August 16, 1823 – April 9, 1897) was an American lawyer who served as the Attorney General of Massachusetts and the Kingdom of Hawaii and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and on King Kamehameha V's Privy Council. Early life Phillips was born August 16, 1823, in Salem, Massachusetts. He was the eldest son of Jane Appleton (Peele) Phillips and politician Stephen C. Phillips (1801–1857). Phillips was a descendant of Rev. George Phillips of Watertown, the progenitor of the New England Phillips family in America. Phillips studied at various private schools in Salem, New York, and Washington, D.C.
