Stephen Umfreville Hay Murray (6 September 1912 – 31 March 1983) was an English cinema, radio, theatre and television actor. Background and education A member of Clan Murray headed by the Duke of Atholl, he was born in Partney, Lincolnshire, the son of the Reverend Charles Murray, Rector of Kirby Knowle, North Riding of Yorkshire, and Mabel (née Umfreville). He was the great-grandson of the Right Reverend George Murray, Bishop of Rochester, while the diplomat Sir Ralph Murray was his elder brother. He was educated at Brentwood School, Essex and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. He was also the great uncle of the comedian Al Murray. Acting career Murray found his greatest fame as the new Number 1, later promoted to Lieutenant Commander in ''The Navy Lark'' on BBC Radio. Stephen Murray (born 9 January 1980) is an English former BMX Dirt rider. Biography On Friday 22 June 2007, at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, Murray took a catastrophic fall attempting a double backflip on the final jump in the dirt section. He suffered career-ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae, and became paralyzed below the shoulders. Reports have shown that he can shrug his shoulders, move his toes, his index fingers, and his thumbs. Murray was a seven-time expert British champion and six-time UK National champion before the age of 16. During his professional BMX career, he was known for his double back flips, 360 back flips, and turndown back flips. He won the gold medal in BMX Dirt in the Summer 2001 X Games and won gold medals in BMX Dirt at the Gravity Games in back-to-back years (2001 and 2002). Stephen D. Murray (born 1945), Professor Emeritus of the Department of Art History and Archaeology at Columbia University, is an architectural historian, specialising in Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Before his retirement, Murray held the Lisa and Bernard Selz chair in Medieval Art History at Columbia University. He has written several important monographs on French Gothic cathedrals, including Troyes, Beauvais, and Amiens. His work combines analysis of architectural details with discussion of medieval writing about cathedrals. Steve Murray (born 9 October 1944) is a Scottish former footballer who played as a midfielder. He spent the majority of his career in the north-east of Scotland, with Dundee and Aberdeen. Murray also enjoyed success with Glasgow club Celtic and represented Scotland once. He later managed Forfar Athletic and Montrose. Playing career Murray began his career in the early 1960s with Dundee, spending six years at Dens Park and picking up runners-up medals in both domestic cup competitions, making around 200 appearances in total.
