Stephen Allen (American Politician)
Stephen Allen (July 2, 1767 – July 28, 1852) was an American politician from New York. He was both mayor of New York City and a senator. Biography Orphaned by the death of his parent(s) in the Revolutionary War, Allen grew to become a wealthy sailmaker. He was the 55th Mayor of New York City from December 1821 to 1824, first appointed by the Council of Appointment in 1821 and then elected by the Board of Aldermen in 1823 and 1824. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (New York Co.) in 1826. He was a member of the New York State Senate (1st D.) from 1829 to 1832, sitting in the 52nd, 53rd, 54th and 55th New York State Legislatures. In 1835, the same year as the Great Fire of New York, Allen moved to 1 Washington Square North, and led the commission that very quickly rebuilt New York's commercial center. Stephen Haley Allen (March 19, 1847 – October 26, 1931) was an associate justice of the Kansas Supreme Court from January 9, 1893 to January 9, 1899. Early life, education, and career Born in Sinclairville, Chautauqua County, New York, Allen was educated in the village school,Clark Bell, ed., ''The Medico-legal Journal'', Vol. 18 (1900), p. 74-75. until the end of his formal education in 1862.R. Sir Stephen Shepherd Allen (2 August 1882 – 4 November 1964) was a New Zealand lawyer, farmer, colonial administrator, local-body politician, and mayor of Morrinsville. Allen was the son of William Shepherd Allen, an MP in both the United Kingdom and New Zealand. His mother was Elizabeth Penelope Candlish, daughter of John Candlish. His brother William Allen was an MP in England. He served in World War I, being appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 1919 King's Birthday Honours, and in the Territorial Army, and was Administrator of the colony of Western Samoa (now Samoa) from 1928 to 1931. His rule of Samoa was marked by the attempted suppression of the Mau movement - culminating on 29 December 1929 with the "Black Saturday" killing of eleven non-violent protesters, including the Mau leader, Tupua Tamasese Lealofi III. Stephen Douglas Allan (born 18 October 1973) is an Australian professional golfer. Allan was born in Melbourne. His parents emigrated from Edinburgh, Scotland three years before he was born. He turned professional in 1996 and was a member of the European Tour from 1997 to 2000. In 1998, his second season in Europe, he won the German Open and finished sixteenth on the Order of Merit, and that remains his most successful year. His other professional win came in his home country, at the 2002 Australian Open. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the U.S.-based PGA Tour, with his best finishes being second placings at the Greater Milwaukee Open in 2003, and the Reno-Tahoe Open in 2004.
