Steeler (American Band)
Steeler was an early 1980s American heavy metal band that featured Swedish guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen upon his arrival in the United States. The band was founded in 1981 in Nashville, Tennessee, by vocalist Ron Keel and released one album on Shrapnel Records in 1983 before morphing into Keel. History The original Steeler lineup comprised Ron Keel on vocals and rhythm guitar, Michael Dunigan on lead guitar, Bobby Eva on drums, and Tim Morrison on bass which soon moved from Nashville to Los Angeles. In 1982, they released the " Cold Day in Hell" b/w "Take Her Down" 7" single and contributed "Cold Day in Hell" to the first edition of the legendary ''Metal Massacre'' compilation which also featured Metallica, Ratt, and Malice. ''Steeler'' is the debut studio album by the American heavy metal band of the same name, released in 1983. It was largely recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, California, about fifty miles north of San Francisco. It was the only album released by the band until a 2005 compilation album released by singer Ron Keel. After the album was released the band broke up. Guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen joined the band Alcatrazz, bassist Rik Fox would form Sin, drummer Mark Edwards signed on with Lion, while Ron Keel would spin off Steeler into Keel. McAuley Schenker Group
McAuley Schenker Group were an American rock band based in Los Angeles featuring core members Robin McAuley (vocals) and Michael Schenker (guitar), a successor (and eventual predecessor) to Schenker's earlier band Michael Schenker Group. McAuley was initially contacted to replace singer Gary Barden in MSG. However, the strong partnership immediately formed between McAuley and Schenker led to the change of the name from Michael Schenker Group to McAuley Schenker Group, retaining the same initials of the previous band MSG. The band consisted of German, Irish, American, and British members and could be considered a supergroup as all members had solid musical careers; for example, guitarist Steve Mann has performed on albums by Tytan, Sweet, Saxon and alongside bassist Rocky Newton in Lionheart. Heaven (Australian Band)
Heaven is an Australian heavy metal band from Sydney, Australia, that formed in 1980. The band recorded three albums and toured throughout the United States during the 1980s. The group's original style was similar to that of AC/DC but in later years went in a more commercial heavy metal direction along the lines of Judas Priest. History The band was originally formed in Adelaide under the name Fat Lip, which featured Scottish-born Allan Fryer, bassist Laurie Marlow, and drummer Joe Turtur. Soon after the band moved to Sydney, AC/DC singer Bon Scott died in London and some unsubstantiated reports suggested that band was considering Fryer as a replacement. Fryer left Fat Lip and returned to Adelaide but he was never called upon to audition. Billy Sheehan
William Sheehan (born March 19, 1953) is an American musician. He is best known for playing the bass guitar with acts such as Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs. He is also known for his "lead bass" playing style, including the use of chording, two-handed tapping, "three-finger picking" technique and controlled feedback. Sheehan has been voted "Best Rock Bass Player" five times in ''Guitar Player'' readers' polls. Raymond Theatre (Pasadena, California)
Raymond Theatre (formerly Perkins Palace) is an auditorium located in Pasadena, California, built around 1921. It was known as Perkins Palace when it was a live music venue from 1979 through 1991. In addition to being a popular music venue, it was featured in several films and music videos during the 1980s. Artists that recorded and released live shows at Perkins Palace include Phil Collins, RATT, Dave Mason, and New Grass Revival. A group known as Friends of the Raymond Theatre, including promoter Gina Zamparelli, has advocated keeping the Raymond Theatre as a performing arts venue. They were looking for a buyer in 2006. Quiet Riot is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band founded in Los Angeles in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads and bassist Kelly Garni. The original lineup featured Rhoads and Garni with lead vocalist Kevin DuBrow and drummer Drew Forsyth, though that version of the band was mired in turmoil that would eventually see Garni fired for making death threats towards DuBrow. Their most commercially successful lineup consisted of DuBrow alongside guitarist Carlos Cavazo, bassist Rudy Sarzo and drummer Frankie Banali, and in 1983 released their breakthrough album ''Metal Health'', which is known for being the first heavy metal album to top the ''Billboard'' album chart. The Roxy Theatre (often just the Roxy) is a nightclub on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California, owned by Lou Adler and his son, Nic. Vandenberg (band)
Vandenberg is a Dutch–American hard rock band from Amsterdam and Los Angeles, formed in 1981. The group is named after guitarist Adriaan "Adje" van den Berg (a.k.a. Adrian Vandenberg). Career In 1981, Van den Berg worked with vocalist Jos Veldhuizen, bass guitarist Griff "Studly" McGrath, and drummer Bico De Gooijer in a band called Teaser. This lineup did not last long, and Van den Berg hired Bert Heerink (vocals), Dick Kemper (bass guitar), and Jos Zoomer (drums). They renamed themselves Vandenberg and recorded a demo that came to the notice of journalist Kees Baars. He offered to manage the group and contracted them to Atlantic Records. Reseda Country Club
Reseda Country Club was a nightclub and multi-purpose venue located on Sherman Way in Reseda, California. The building started off as a Sav-On drug store in the 1950s and later became a music venue in 1980 when Chuck Landis purchased the site. It originally featured country music acts, hence its name. The club was managed by concert promoter Jim Rissmiller from 1981 to 1984. Rissmiller was able to book premier shows of all types, including acts such as B.B. King, Iggy Pop, James Brown, R.E.M., and U2. Hughes/ Thrall was a musical project formed in 1982 by former Deep Purple and Trapeze bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes and guitarist Pat Thrall. History While Pat Thrall had spent the late 1970s and early 1980s making a name for himself by playing with the likes of Automatic Man and Pat Travers, former Deep Purple member Glenn Hughes recorded one solo album after the demise of Purple in 1976 entitled '' Play Me Out''; a record that focused more on his love of soul and funk rather than hard rock. Alcatrazz
Alcatrazz is a heavy metal band formed in 1983 by Graham Bonnet, Jimmy Waldo, and Gary Shea. Following an internal disagreement and split in 2020, there are currently two separate and distinct Alcatrazz line-ups, one featuring Bonnet, and another featuring Waldo and Shea. Alcatrazz are best known for their songs "Island in the Sun", "Hiroshima Mon Amour", and "God Blessed Video". The band went through a number of line-up changes, with Bonnet being the only member to be in every incarnation of Alcatrazz. They are also notable for featuring a previously-unknown Yngwie Malmsteen, who was the guitarist of Alcatrazz during 1983–1984, and was subsequently replaced by Steve Vai, and Danny Johnson in the original incarnation of the band up until 1987.
