State Security Council Of Turkmenistan
The State Security Council of Turkmenistan ( tk, Türkmenistanyň Döwlet Howpsuzlyk Geňeşi/Түркменистаның Дөвлет Ховпсузлык Геңеши; russian: Государственный совет безопасности Туркменистана) is an important decision-making body in the field of the defence of Turkmenistan. It is the highest decision-making body in the armed forces next to the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, with its members directly advising the President of Turkmenistan on matters of national security. According to the 1995 Law on defence, the council is chaired by the President of Turkmenistan, who can define the powers and actions of the Security Council. The Security Council was first mentioned in the 2003 Constitution of Turkmenistan, with it noting that in the president's role as supreme commander-in-chief, he/she can convene sessions of the council, as well as dismiss and promote members of the council. The Turkmen Ground Forces () is the army branch of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan. The ground forces include the 2nd, 3rd, 11th, and 22nd Motor Rifle Divisions as well as smaller units consisting of various types of troops. History The basis of the present-day Turkmen Ground Forces are several rifle divisions from the Turkestan Military District (based in neighboring Uzbekistan) of the Soviet Armed Forces. Of these units, the 36th Army Corps was stationed in the Turkmen SSR. More than 50,000 former Soviet Army personnel were either withdrawn or fired following the creation of the national defence ministry. Yaylym Yagmyrovich Berdiyev ( tk, Ýaýlym Ýagmyrowiç Berdiýew, Cyrillic: Яйлым Ягмырович Бердиев) is a Turkmen general and politician. He is a former Minister of National Security as well as the former Secretary of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan. He also previously served as the Minister of Defense of Turkmenistan from 2015 to 2018. Biography He was born in the Baharden District of the Turkmen SSR.
