"Starry Night" is the debut single by American Contemporary Christian musician Chris August off of his debut CD ''No Far Away''. It was released on May 11, 2010; it had topped several of ''Billboard'' magazine's Christian charts by November of that year. The single garnered five Dove Award nominations for August, including Song of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. Writing August was originally signed by Geffen Records as a mainstream artist after Ryan Cabrera noticed him. He was managed by Ashlee Simpson's father Joe Simpson and he toured as her opening act and keyboardist. After his contract ended during renegotiation, he decided to return to his roots as a Christian musician. Christopher August Megert (born March 20, 1982) is an American Contemporary Christian musician who performs under the stage name Chris August. August began recording as a secular musician before switching to Christian music. His song "Starry Night" reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Christian Songs chart in 2010/2011. He was nominated at the 2011 Dove Awards in five categories, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year. Ryan Frank Cabrera ( ) (born July 18, 1982) is an American musician. He began his career as a lead singer for the Dallas band Rubix Groove before pursuing his solo career. Following the 2001 release of independent album '' Elm St.'', he released his first major-label album, ''Take It All Away'', on August 17, 2004. Earlier in the year, Cabrera had become known for his up-tempo pop-rock single " On the Way Down". It was then followed by Cabrera's second single, "True"; and his third single "40 Kinds of Sadness". Christian adult contemporary, also known as Christian AC or CAC, is a radio format. In the United States, Christian adult contemporary radio stations cater to a mostly adult audience and are similar to mainstream adult contemporary stations in that they play hits often and for long periods of time.
