Anthony Stapley
Anthony Stapley (born 30 August 1590 – buried 31 January 1655) was one of the regicides of King Charles I of England. Stapley was M.P. for New Shoreham (1624–1625), Lewes (1628), Sussex (1640, 1653–1654). He was colonel and governor of Chichester (1642–1645) and signed the death-warrant of Charles I. He was a member of Council of State in 1649–1653, vice-admiral of Sussex in 1650 and a member of interim council and of supreme assembly in 1653. Biography Stapley was baptised at Framfield on 30 August 1590, was the son of Anthony Stapley of Framfield, Sussex, by his third wife, Ann, daughter of John Thatcher of Priesthawes, Sussex. The Stapley family removed about 1615 from Framfield to Patcham. Anthony about 1640 gave £10 to the new building at Christ's College, Cambridge, and was probably educated there. Charles Stapley
Charles Henry Stapley (23 July 1925 – 8 January 2011) was an English actor, best known for playing Ted Hope in the television soap opera ''Crossroads''. He also appeared in various theatrical roles, in ''The Benny Hill Show'', and in a television version of ''The Adventures of Robin Hood'' in which he took 26 different roles. Early life Charles Stapley was born in Ilford, Essex, the son of a business executive father who worked for the Blue Circle cement company in London. He was educated at Ilford County High School and Brighton and Hove Grammar School after the family moved to Portslade, East Sussex. Career Stapley served in the Royal Air Force at the end of the Second World War. He then worked in the film distribution division of the Rank Organisation. Harry Stapley
Henry Stapley (29 April 1883 – 29 April 1937) was an English amateur footballer who played for West Ham United and Glossop. Internationally, he played for the England amateur team and competed for Great Britain at the 1908 Summer Olympics, where he scored 6 goals. Club career Stapley played for Manor Park Albion, Bromley and Norwich CEYMS before joining Reading, where he played for the reserve and amateur teams. He then played for Woodford Town, where he was made captain, before signing for West Ham United, then of the Southern League, on 28 September 1905. He continued to play for Woodford Town after his signing. Stapley made his West Ham debut against Portsmouth on 23 December 1905 and scored the only goal of the game. He spent three seasons at Upton Park and was the Irons' top scorer in all three, even though his job as a schoolteacher prevented him from traveling to certain midweek away games. Jay Stapley
Jay Stapley (born 13 April 1957) is a British musician. Career Stapley started his musical career playing with local bands in Kent and Sussex in the UK. In 1978 he became involved in the London music scene and became a session player and gigging guitarist. He worked alongside various artists and producers on international tours with Roger Waters and Mike Oldfield, the film Withnail and I, and on the albums of Suede, Toyah and Scott Walker. In 1983 while performing live work with Julian Dawson in Germany, he met producer René Tinner and began working in Tinner's Cologne studio to record guitar tracks for various projects. Stapley also recorded and toured with Westernhagen, and became his co-producer and musical director. During the 1990s Stapley recorded four instrumental CDs for WEA. John Stapley
Sir John Stapley, 1st Baronet of Patcham (1628–1701) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1679. He was a Royalist who plotted with members of the Sealed Knot to overthrow the Protector Oliver Cromwell and restore Charles II of England to the throne, but when questioned by Cromwellians he disclosed the plot and betrayed the other members. Mildred Stapley Byne (1875-1941) was an American art historian who specialized in Spanish art and architecture. With her husband Arthur Byne (1883-1935), whom she married in 1910, she wrote many of the first academic works in English on the architecture and ironwork of Spanish colonization of the Americas, Spanish colonial North America. Byne's first noted essay on "The Great Isabella I of Castile, Queen Isabel" was published in ''Harper's Monthly Magazine'' in June 1912. Her most famous book is ''Christopher Columbus,'' a popular biography that brought new research done in Spanish to English-speaking audiences. Richard Stapley (20 June 1923 – 5 March 2010), also known by the stage name Richard Wyler, was a British actor and writer. Early life Stapley was born in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, England in 1923.
