Stan Richards (footballer)
Stanley Verdun Richards (21 January 1917 – 19 April 1987) was a Welsh professional footballer and Wales international. Career Although he was born in Cardiff, Stan Richards began his career playing amateur football in London before joining his hometown team in 1946. He made his professional debut on the opening day of the season at the age of 29, scoring Cardiff's goal during a 2–1 defeat to Norwich City, and went on to score thirty league goals which was a club record for 56 years before it was broken by Robert Earnshaw in the 2002–03 season. It was during his time at Cardiff that he won his only cap for Wales in a match against England on 13 November 1946 in the 1947 British Home Championship. The following season he suffered a spate of injuries which restricted his appearances and, despite scoring 40 times in just 57 games, he was allowed to re-join former manager Billy McCandless at Swansea Town. The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. Ninian Park
Ninian Park was a football stadium in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales, that was the home of Cardiff City F.C. for 99 years. Opened in 1910 with a single wooden stand, it underwent numerous renovations during its lifespan and hosted fixtures with over 60,000 spectators in attendance. At the time of its closure in 2009, it had a capacity of 21,508. Cardiff City had originally been playing home fixtures at Sophia Gardens but the lack of facilities at the ground had prevented them from joining the Southern Football League. To combat this, club founder Bartley Wilson secured a plot of land from Cardiff Corporation that had previously been used as a rubbish tip and construction of a new ground began in 1909. The stadium was completed a year later and named Ninian Park after Lieutenant-Colonel Lord Ninian Crichton-Stuart, who had acted as a financial guarantor for the build. The Racecourse Ground ( cy, Y Cae Ras) is a football stadium in Wrexham, Wales. It is the home of Wrexham A.F.C. It is the world's oldest international football stadium that still hosts international matches, having hosted Wales' first home international match in 1877, and has hosted more Wales international matches than any other ground. The record attendance at the ground was set in 1957, when Wrexham hosted a match against Manchester United in front of 34,445 spectators.
