Barbara Staggs
Barbara Masterson Staggs (July 18, 1940 – November 22, 2014) was a longtime educator in Muskogee, Oklahoma and a legislator in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. During her time in the legislature, Staggs assisted as a member of the Common Education Committee and was integral in passing many bills, such as one that lead to the creation of the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in Muskogee. Staggs earned a bachelor's degree in Education from Northeastern State University and both a master's degree in English and a doctorate in Education from the University of Tulsa. She worked as a classroom teacher for 15 years, then moved up in school administration until she became Superintendent of Public Schools in Talequah, Oklahoma. Jimmy Pearson Staggs (October 7, 1935 – November 6, 2007), also known as Jim Stagg, was an American disc jockey and record store owner in Chicago, Illinois. Early life Staggs was born October 7, 1935, in Bessemer, Alabama. Staggs was a stellar student and athlete in high school who passed on a football scholarship to Georgia Tech. Staggs later graduated from the University of Alabama. Jim was the featured vocal soloist with the Crimson Tide orchestra during his college years. Radio career Staggs' radio career began in Birmingham (on WYDE AM). From there, it was on to Philadelphia (on WIBG), San Francisco (on KYA), and Milwaukee (on WOKY) before his stint at KYW, Cleveland. Stephen Robert Staggs (born May 6, 1951) is a former Major League Baseball second baseman who played for two seasons. He played 72 games for the Toronto Blue Jays during the 1977 Toronto Blue Jays season and 47 games for the Oakland Athletics during the 1978 Oakland Athletics season. Suzanne T. Staggs (born May 11, 1965) is an American physicist who is currently the Henry DeWolf Smyth Professor of Physics at Princeton University. Staggs has led the development of numerous cosmic microwave background experiments and is currently the principal investigator (PI) of the Atacama Cosmology Telescope (ACT) and founding member of the Simons Observatory (SO). In 2020, Staggs was elected into the National Academy of Sciences. Staggs–Huffaker Building
The Staggs–Huffaker Building is a historic commercial building at North Main and West Illinois Streets in Beebe, Arkansas. It is a two-story vernacular brick building, with an angled corner bay. The Main Street facade has a wood-shingled awning extending across the first floor. There is brick corbelling above the second level, and a gabled parapet above. Built about 1880, it is one of a small number of commercial buildings to survive from the city's early railroad-related development. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
