Staf De Clercq
Staf Declercq (16 September 1884 – 22 October 1942) was a Flemish nationalist collaborator, co-founder and leader of the Flemish nationalist Vlaamsch Nationaal Verbond (Flemish National League, or VNV). Biography He was born as Jeroom Gustaaf Declercq in Everbeek, East Flanders on 16 September 1884. He was a member of the moderate Frontpartij, became party leader in 1932, and moved them to the right, converting them into VNV the following year. John T. Everbeek
Everbeek (French: ''Everbecq'') is a village situated in the Flemish Ardennes and in the Denderstreek in Belgium. In 1977, it was included into the municipality of Brakel. Although it is Dutch speaking, this village was part of the Walloon province of Hainaut (Henegouwen) until 1963, when it became part of the Flemish province of East Flanders. History The area had been inhabited since Roman times. In 2019, a Roman silver treasure had been discovered in a wasteland in Everbeek. The municipality was first mentioned in the 11th century. The oldest settlement is Everbeek-Beneden which is located in the valley. A new settlement was later built on the hill and has become known as Everbeek-Boven. In 1333, the villages became part of Hainaut. In 1963, the municipality was moved to the East Flanders province, because it was a Flemish speaking area unlike Hainaut which is French speaking. Hendrik Jozef Elias (12 June 1902 – 2 February 1973) was a Belgian politician and Flemish nationalist, notable as the leader of the Vlaams Nationaal Verbond between 1942 and 1944. ''Vlaams Blok'' ( en, Flemish Block, or VB) was the name of a Belgian far-right and secessionist political party with an anti-immigration platform.Erk, 2005, pp. 493-502. Its ideologies embraced Flemish nationalism, calling for the independence of Flanders. The party originated from split within the Volksunie (VU) party after the right-wing separatist and national conservative wing became disgruntled with the compromise of accepting Belgian federalism over Flemish interests, and what they saw as the VU's move to the left.
