Stadio San Francesco D'Assisi
The Stadio San Francesco d'Assisi is a football stadium in Nocera Inferiore, Italy. It is the home of A.S.D. Nocerina 1910 and former home stadium of now defunct A.S.G. Nocerina. The stadium was originally called the "Stadio Comunale" but was renamed in honour to Saint Francis of Assisi because there is a church nearby dedicated to him. The stadium was built in 1970, and rebuilt and amplified in 1978 on the occasion of the promotion of Nocerina to Serie B. Renovations on the structure have continued: in the 1986 the grandstand was covered and the tartan track was added. In 2000 the stadium was illuminated. Finally, in 2006 it was re-amplified with the Curva Nord, and the tartan track was once again restructured. The official record attendance is 15,000 from 1979, at a Serie B match between Nocerina and Genoa. In the 1992 the Stadio San Francesco hosted the visit of Pope John Paul II. Nocera Inferiore
Nocera Inferiore ( nap, Nucèrä Inferiórë or simply , , locally ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno, in Campania in southern Italy. It lies west of Nocera Superiore, at the foot of Monte Albino, some 20 km east-southeast of Naples by rail. History The ancient city of ''Nuceria Alfaterna'' was situated nearby in Nocera Superiore. Some of the city's necropoli were located in the area of Nocera Inferiore. Its post-Roman history until 1851 is in common with Nocera Superiore. Post-Roman History At an early date, the city became an episcopal see, and in the 12th century, it sided with Innocent II against Roger of Sicily, suffering severely for its choice. Nuceria Alfaterna
Nocera Superiore ( nap, Nucèrë or ) is a town and ''comune'' in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-western Italy. It was the core of the ancient city of ', later known as ', ' and then ' ( it, Nocera dei Pagani), which also included the nowadays territories of Nocera Inferiore, Pagani and smaller towns. In other respects, its history up until 1851 is held in common with the adjacent Nocera Inferiore: the two towns share a common origin.
