St Patrick's GAA (Donabate)
St Patrick's, Donabate GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Donabate, County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Club history Prior to 1924, Gaelic football was played in Donabate and Portrane by the Stars of Fingal. In 1924 a new club was formed which took the name of the patron saint of the parish, Saint Patrick. One of the highlights of the club's history was the winning of the club's first Dublin Junior Football Championship in 1980, a feat repeated in 2008. More recently in the club's history it achieved 3 league promotions in a row from 2011 to 2014. Donabate
Donabate () is a small coastal town in Fingal, Ireland, about north-northeast of Dublin. The town is on a peninsula on Ireland's east coast, between the Rogerstown Estuary to the north and Broadmeadow Estuary to the south. Donabate is a civil parish in the ancient barony of Nethercross. Geography The Donabate peninsula forms a distinctive hammer-head shape. This is because each of the mouths of both estuaries surrounding the peninsula are partially closed by large sand spits stretching north to south. The northern spit contains Portrane beach which almost touches Rush South Beach but for a narrow channel entering the Rogerstown Estuary. A stretch of low limestone cliffs to the south of Portrane beach leads to Donabate Beach which is the east face of the southern spit. The southern Broadmeadow estuary is likewise almost completely enclosed and is fed by the Broadmeadow river. The Dublin Junior Football championship is the Junior Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football competition of Dublin. The winners of the Junior championship go on to qualify for the Dublin Intermediate Football Championship. The winners will also represent Dublin in the Leinster Junior Club Football Championship. St Vincent's are the most successful club in the Junior A championship having won the competition on six occasions, with their most recent victory in 2014 beating Craobh Ciarain in the final. New format In 2018, the grading system of Junior Championships was drastically changed. The Dublin Junior Football Championship is divided between Junior 1 and 2.
