St Mary's Rosslare GAA
St Mary's Rosslare are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Wexford. St Mary's were the first winners of the Wexford Senior Football Championship in 1886 under the name of Rosslare Tigers. They include such famous hurlers as 1996 All Ireland winning Wexford manager Liam Griffin and one of Wexfords most experienced players of all time, former Wexford Football Captain & centre back David Murphy. History St Mary's Rosslare was founded in 1886. The parish includes from Kilrane, Rosslare Harbour, Tagoat and Rosslare Strand. They won the first ever Wexford Senior Football Championship, beating Crossabeg Ballymurn GAA in the final. As of 2020, St Mary’s Rosslare have four adult teams, two hurling (Intermediate ‘A’ and Junior B) and two football (Intermediate and Junior B) The logo was designed by Ray Wickham. The Wexford Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by top-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as The Courtyard Ferns Intermediate Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by mid-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1930. The title has been won at least once by 38 different clubs. The all-time record-holders are Ferns St Aidan's, who have won the competition six times. Oylegate–Glenbrien are the title-holders (2021) defeating HWH Bunclody in the Final. Liam Griffin (hurler)
Liam Griffin (born 1945 or 1947 in Rosslare, County Wexford) is an Irish former hurler and manager. He played hurling at various times with his local clubs Rosslare and Newmarket-on Fergus with the Wexford and Clare senior inter-county teams in the 1960s. Griffin later served as manager of the Wexford senior inter-county team from in 1995 and 1996. Later he was instrumental on the Hurling Development Committee that established the Christy Ring Cup and Nicky Rackard Cup for weaker hurling counties. In 2009 he was named in the '' Sunday Tribune''s list of the ''125 Most Influential People In GAA History''. Biography Griffin was born in Rosslare, County Wexford in 1945 or 1947. David Murphy is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player. He played for the Wexford county team until 2013, when he retired with 180 caps, making him his county's most experienced player of all-time.
