St Mary's F.C.
St. Mary's A.F.C. is an Irish association football club based in Kilcully Park, near Glanmire and Blackpool, Cork. Their senior men's team currently plays in the Munster Senior League Senior Premier Division. The club has previously played in the Cork Athletic Union League. They have also competed in the FAI Cup, the FAI Intermediate Cup and the Munster Senior Cup. History Early years St. Mary's A.F.C. was formed in 1948 as a single youth team based in Gurranabraher, taking their name from the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne. In 1948–49 the club entered a team in the Munster Youth League. Munster Senior League (association Football)
The Munster Senior League is an association football league organised by the Munster Football Association. It organises seven divisions as well as various cup competitions. Its Senior Division is a third level division in the Republic of Ireland football league system. Munster Senior League teams also compete in the Munster Senior Cup, the FAI Cup, the FAI Intermediate Cup and the FAI Junior Cup. In recent seasons the winners of the Senior Division have qualified to play in the League of Ireland Cup. Despite using the Munster name in its title, the vast majority of its member clubs are based in County Cork. Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000. The FAI Junior Cup is a cup competition organized by the Football Association of Ireland for junior association football clubs from the Republic of Ireland. The inaugural winners were Brideville. The competition's most successful club is Fairview Rangers of the Limerick & District League who have been winners nine times. According to the FAI, the FAI Junior Cup is one of the largest national amateur cup competitions in Europe. The 2012–13 competition saw an estimated 600 clubs enter the cup. The competition also serves a qualifier for the senior FAI Cup with the four semi-finalists all invited to take part in the FAI Cup. Turners Cross is an all-seater football stadium located in and synonymous with the district of Turners Cross in Cork, Ireland. It is owned by the Munster Football Association (MFA), and is used by the MFA and by League of Ireland side Cork City. It was the first all-seated, all-covered stadium in Ireland following redevelopment in 2009, and it is currently one out of only two, the other being the Aviva Stadium.
