St Kiernan's GFC
St Kiernan's Gaelic Football Club is a Gaelic football club based in the London Borough of Barnet. It currently fields teams, men's and ladies', from Under 6's up to Adult (Men's & Ladies'), including Senior, Junior (London-born development team) and Reserve at men's adult level with in excess of 300 members throughout the club. History The club was founded in September 1984 in St Anthonys parish, Edgware; it was named in honour of its founding president and parish priest, Fr. Tom Kiernan; Kiernan is a variant of Ternan. Three years after the club's formation in 1988 St. Kiernan's moved to Montrose Playing Fields in Burnt Oak, remaining at the pitch until 2016. As of 2022, the club are based at King George V Playing Fields south of Barnet, with development of clubhouse and indoor training facility due for completion in 2023. King George V Playing Fields, Totteridge
King George V Playing Fields is an area of playing fields of approximately in Totteridge in the London Borough of Barnet. It is located south east of the junction of Barnet Lane and Dollis Brook. Following the death of King George V in 1936 the King George's Fields Foundation was established to give grants for the establishment of playing fields, the work of the foundation is now undertaken by charity Fields in Trust. The Totteridge fields were originally the third largest of all King George's Fields at , and the Foundation gave a grant of £3,000 towards the total capital cost of £62,335. King George V Playing Fields, Totteridge have been legally protected since July 1943. The rules of the Foundation required permanent preservation of the area as a King George's Field as a memorial to the king, but less than a fifth of the original size remains. The London county football team represents London in men's Gaelic football and is governed by London GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Connacht Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. The FBD, also called the FBD Insurance League, FBD Connacht League, the Connacht FBD Football League or FBD Insurance Connacht GAA Senior Football Competition, is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by Connacht GAA and sponsored by FBD. The participants are the five county teams. Formerly several third-level college teams also competed, but from 2018 onward it became an all-county tournament. In 2019 and 2020 it was a knockout tournament with no league element, and so it was called the "Connacht GAA Senior Football Competition"; in 2023 it was simply referred to as "the FBD." The 1997 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 111th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 11 May 1997 and ended on 28 September 1997. Meath entered the championship as the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Offaly in the Leinster final.
