St Brendan's GAA (Dublin)
St Brendan's GAA is a Dublin GAA-affiliated Gaelic football club based in the Grangegorman area of the north of Dublin city, Ireland. The club dates back (in one guise or another) to 1920. Founded in 1920 the club was firstly named the Richmond Asylum Hurling Club. The name was changed in 1923 to St Dympna‘s. The club became known as St Brendan’s in 1958 to coincide with the change in name of the hospital with which it is closely associated. The most famous day in the club's history was probably the 1980 Dublin Senior Hurling Championship final win over Faughs. Hurling The club competes in Division 7 of the Dublin hurling leagues. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Dublin Senior Hurling Championship
The Dublin Senior Hurling Championship ( ga, Craobh Sinsear Iomána Átha Cliath) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Dublin GAA, Dublin County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA) since 1887 for the top hurling clubs in County Dublin, Ireland. Sixteen clubs compete. Initially the teams are divided into four groups of four with the group matches being played from April to May with a break to accommodate the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, All-Ireland Championship and resume during August or September. The group stage is followed by a Tournament#Knock-out tournaments, knock-out phase which takes place during the months of October and November. Faughs GAA Club ( ga, CLG Fág an Bealach) is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) hurling and camogie club in Templeogue, Dublin, Ireland. They have won 31 titles. History Faughs GAA Club was founded in Easter 1885, "under the big tree" in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. Its inaugural meeting was held at 4 Gardiner's Row, home of Michael Cusack (now the Dergvale Hotel). The club name, Faughs, is derived from the Irish language slogan, , meaning "clear the way," a battle cry used by ancient Irish warriors. When the Dublin County Board was formed in 1886, Larry O'Toole was on the committee. At this time Faughs, wearing colours amber and black played both hurling and football, took part in the first Dublin championships in 1887, and were winners of the Dublin Senior Football Championship in 1889. St Vincents GAA
St Vincents is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Marino, on the northside of Dublin, Ireland. The club was founded in 1931 in Marino, instrumental in the founding of the club were Rev Dr William Fitzpatrick (St Vincent de Paul Church, Marino) and Bro. Ernest Fitzgerald (Scoil Mhuire CBS, Marino). Although its club grounds were in Raheny for a number of years, it moved to its home back into Marino in 1987. St Vincents merged with Marino Camogie Club in 1997 to form the St Vincents Hurling, Football and Camogie Club. They have won the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship on three occasions, most recently in 2014.
