St Anne's Church, Chasetown
Chasetown is a village in the town of Burntwood in Staffordshire, England. It is split between the civil parishes of Burntwood and Hammerwich. History Chasetown developed in the mid 19th century as a coal mining village. At first the village was simply known as Cannock Chase due to its proximity to the nearby forest, it was known as Chasetown by 1867. The first pit was sunk by the Marquess of Anglesey in 1849, when the Hammerwich Colliery opened at the base of Chasewater reservoir. Cannock Chase Collieries No.2 and No.9 opened in the 1850s to the west of the village where the Rugby club is sited today. As a result of the mining industry, housing for the miners began to be developed around High Street, Church Street and Queen Street. Three pairs of cottages were built on the north side of Church Street in 1854, and the adjoining Uxbridge Arms existed by 1856. Lichfield (district)
Lichfield District () is a local government district in Staffordshire, England. The district is named after its largest settlement, the city of Lichfield, which is where the district council is based. The district also contains the towns of Burntwood and Fazeley, along with numerous villages and surrounding rural areas, including part of Cannock Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The neighbouring districts are Cannock Chase, Stafford, East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, North West Leicestershire, North Warwickshire, Tamworth, Birmingham and Walsall. Black Country
The Black Country is an area of England's West Midlands. It is mainly urban, covering most of the Dudley and Sandwell metropolitan boroughs, with the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall and the City of Wolverhampton. The road between Wolverhampton and Birmingham was described as "one continuous town" in 1785. The area was one of the Industrial Revolution's birthplaces. Erasmus Darwin Academy
Erasmus Darwin Academy (previously Chasetown High School, then Chasetown Specialist Sports College) is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status in the Chasetown area of Burntwood in Staffordshire, England. History Chasetown High School opened in 1970. Its gym was attacked by arsonists in 2004 and had to be rebuilt. This work was completed in 2006, following which the school bought a field opposite Pool Road as an extension for more field activities. The road was closed and now is part of the school grounds. After the new gym was built the school gained Specialist Sports College status. The school converted to an academy in 2011 and was renamed to commemorate Erasmus Darwin, the 18th-century physician and natural philosopher who lived nearby at Lichfield. In 2022, the prime minister at the time Rishi Sunak visited the school.
