St. Michael's Printshop
St. Michael's Printshop is an artist-run print studio in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Founded in 1974, it provides fine art printmaking facilities for established and emerging artists, including intaglio, lithography, and relief printing. It also offers studio rentals, workshops and exhibition space, and maintains an artist-in-residence program. History The printshop was founded in 1974 by artists Don Wright and Heidi Oberheide. Briefly housed in an old airport hangar in St. John's, its first permanent home was a former schoolhouse in the small outport community of St. Michael's, on the southern shore of the Avalon Peninsula. Funding for the venture came from Canada Council for the Arts and Memorial University of Newfoundland. Angelo Evelyn
Angelo Evelyn (born 1942) is a Canadian artist. In the course of his career, Evelyn resided and maintained studios in Montreal (Canada), Bremen, Paris, Aachen (Germany), Trondheim (Norway), and Rotterdam (The Netherlands). Early life Evelyn was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, where he obtained a degree in Physics and Mathematics at the University of British Columbia. From May 1966 to February 1967, known as Fred A. Evelyn, he was on meteorological officer training in Ottawa, Toronto, and CFB Trenton with John Gordon, Bob Clibbon, Brian Mason, Dave Philips, Alfred Warkentin, and David Hagborg amongst others. Ericka Walker
Ericka Walker (born June 16, 1981 in Hartford, Wisconsin) is an American artist and printmaker. She lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Life and work Education Walker attended secondary school at Hartford Union High School from 1996-1999. She studied studio art at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point from 1999-2001 and the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 2002-2005, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. Gerald Squires
Gerald Leopold "Gerry" Squires, (November 17, 1937 – October 3, 2015) was an artist from Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Perhaps best known for painting dramatic landscapes in acrylic and oil, Squires also produced major work in sculpture, lithography and stained glass. He was also an accomplished portraitist. Much of his work drew inspiration from the landscape and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador. Mary Frances Pratt, LL. D. D.Litt. (née West) (March 15, 1935 – August 14, 2018) was a Canadian painter known for photo-realist still life paintings. Pratt never thought of her work as being focused on one subject matter: her early work is often of domestic scenes, while later work may have a darker undertone, with people as the central subject matter. She painted what appealed to her, being emotionally connected to her subject. Pratt often spoke of conveying the sensuality of light in her paintings, and of the "erotic charge" her chosen subjects possessed. Doris McCarthy, LL. D. (July 7, 1910 – November 25, 2010) was a Canadian artist known for her abstracted landscapes. Life and career Born in Calgary, Alberta, McCarthy attended the Ontario College of Art from 1926 to 1930, where she was awarded various scholarships and prizes. Harold Klunder
Harold Klunder (born 1943) is a Canadian painter. Career Born in Deventer, The Netherlands, Klunder immigrated with his family to Canada in 1952. He studied art at the Central Technical School, Toronto. In 1994, he began to teach at Memorial University of Newfoundland and in 1997-1998, he taught at University of Lethbridge, Alberta. Work Klunder is principally known for his abstract paintings which are based on a non-traditional notion of "the self-portrait". They often feature an abundant use of paint, applied in layers, and take years to complete. From 1971 to 1979, he used images and patterns often taken from found objects and geometric shapes.
