St Michael's Hospital, Braintree
The St Michael's Hospital was a health facility in Rayne Road, Braintree, Essex. It was managed by Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust. History The facility had its origins in the Braintree Union Workhouse which was designed by William Nash and opened in 1838. New infirmary wings were added on either side of the main building in 1910. It became the Braintree Public Assistance Institution in 1930 and joined the National Health Service as St Michael's Hospital in 1948. St Michael's Hospital is a hospital in Bristol, England. Built in 1975, it provides maternity services for Bristol. The hospital is managed by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust. History The hospital was established in 1865 at Alfred Place as the Temporary Home for Young Girls Who Have Gone Astray. It moved to Southwell Street in 1871, before briefly relocating to St Michael's Hill in the 1940s. It joined the National Health Service as the Bristol Lying-In Hospital in 1948, but then moved to Queen Victoria House on Durdham Down where Clementine Churchill conducted an official opening in November 1950. It returned to St Michael's Hill as the Bristol Maternity Hospital in 1975, and became known as St. Michael's Hospital in the 1980s. Services The hospital has a total of 114 beds. St Michael's Hospital is a small hospital located in Hayle, Cornwall, England run by Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. History Following the donation by Miss Frances Ellis of some property in Hayle to the Daughters of the Cross, Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege in 1904, the Daughters of the Cross established a convent in The Downes, Miss Ellis's former manor house, and a hospital on an adjacent part of the site in 1913. After the Daughters of the Cross experienced some financial difficulties paying for the running of the hospital, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust acquired the hospital in November 2003. The convent became The Downes Residential Care Home at the same time. Services The hospital carries out approximately 5,000 operations each year and sees more than 17,000 outpatients each year.
