St. Joseph's Chapel (New York City)
St. Joseph's Chapel was a mission parish of St. Peter's Church, the oldest Catholic parish in New York State. Established in 1983, it was located at 385 South End Avenue in the Gateway Apartments complex, in Battery Park City, Manhattan, New York City. The chapel closed in January 2018, after being unable to afford a lease renewal at the site. History St. Joseph's traces its origin to Maronite Catholics who held services in a lower church at St. Peter's on Barclay Street from 1899 to 1906, when they built their own church on Washington Street. In 1904, the Maronite community also established the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Lebanon in Brooklyn. In 1946, the City of New York took title to the Washington Street property in connection with the construction of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. San Giuseppe's Church (New York City)
The Church of St. Joseph is a former parish church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located at 5 Monroe Street in the neighborhoods of Chinatown and Two Bridges in Manhattan, New York City. It is now administered by the Parish of Transfiguration and of St. James/St. Joseph. The Parish of St. Joseph had merged with the former neighboring Parish of St. Joachim in 1957. In 2007, it was merged again with the nearby Parish of St. James. Finally, in 2015, the parish was merged with the Church of the Transfiguration. Parish history The parish was opened about 1923 by the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo, a religious congregation founded in 1887 by the Blessed John Baptist Scalabrini, a Catholic bishop in Italy who had become aware of the plight of his fellow countrymen who were emigrating to America to escape poverty. World Trade Center (1973–2001)
The original World Trade Center (WTC) was a large complex of seven buildings in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan in New York City. It opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed in 2001 during the September 11 attacks. Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral is a Maronite Catholic cathedral located in Brooklyn, New York, United States. It is the seat of the Eparchy of St. Maron of Brooklyn. It is located in the neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights in the oldest northwest section of the borough, across the East River from Manhattan. The church building originally housed the "Church of the Pilgrims" of the old Congregational Christian Church, (merged 1957 into the United Church of Christ). Edward Michael Egan (April 2, 1932 – March 5, 2015) was an American Cardinal (Catholicism), cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.
