St. Joseph's Academy (Laredo, Texas)
Saint Joseph's Academy, sometimes referred to as St. Joe or SJA, was a private school started by the Marist Brothers of the Schools. It was located in Laredo, Texas, United States, and served junior high and high school students in Laredo and the surrounding areas. History St. Joseph's Academy was founded in Laredo in 1934 by exiled Marist Brothers who were fleeing Mexico to avoid religious persecution by the Mexican government. In 1942, St. Joseph's Academy had its first graduating class. The school had its last graduating class in 1973. The school colors were maroon and white. The school mascot was the ram but because the word "rams" could be used in a derogatory way in Spanish, the mascot was changed to "antlers". Marist Brothers
The Marist Brothers of the Schools, commonly known as simply the Marist Brothers, is an international community of Catholic religious institute of brothers. In 1817, St. Marcellin Champagnat, a Marist priest from France, founded the Marist Brothers with the goal of educating young people, especially those most neglected. While most of the brothers minister in school settings, others work with young people in parishes, religious retreats and spiritual accompaniment, at-risk youth settings, young adult ministry and overseas missions. Laredo ( ; ) is a city in and the county seat of Webb County, Texas, United States, on the north bank of the Rio Grande in South Texas, across from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Pete Saenz
Pedro Ignacio Saenz Jr. (born October 29, 1951), known as Pete Saenz, is an American attorney and politician serving as the mayor of Laredo, Texas, a position which he assumed on November 12, 2014. Family background Pete Saenz was born to Pedro Ignacio Saenz and Maria del Refugio ( Martinez) Saenz. Pete Saenz has two living siblings. Another sister is deceased. Education Saenz was educated at the Roman Catholic St. Joseph's Academy in Laredo. Laredo College (LC) is a public community college in Laredo, Texas. Founded as Laredo Junior College in 1947, it is part of the Laredo Independent School District.
