St. George's Church, Chathannoor
St George Orthodox Church, Chathannoor, known locally as Chathannoor Valiya Palli, is a parish of the Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. "Chathannoor Marthamariyam Suriyani Pally," as it was called in the ancient days, was built around AD 1755. One of the largest churches in South Kerala, it is the oldest church in Chathannoor and mother church to the churches in the Chathannoor region. Thiruvananthapuram Orthodox Diocese
Thiruvananthapuram Orthodox Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. History On 20 February 1978, the Malankara Syrian Christian managing committee recommended a division in Kollam diocese. According to Committee’s recommendation, Thiruvananthapuram Diocese was formed on 1 January 1979, after the division of Kollam Diocese. At the time of formation 94 parishes were under the diocese. From 1986 onwards, the orthodox Center at Ulloor has served as the bishop house. Today In 2010, a new diocese in the name of Kottarakkara Punalur Diocese was created after dividing the Thiruvananthapuram Diocese. There are 51 parishes in the diocese after the division. Chathannoor is a town in the Indian state of Kerala situated at the Kollam District on the banks of Ithikkara River. It is about from Kollam(Quilon) City. Chathannoor is around north of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum). This town is one of the fastest developing towns in Kerala. It is a Special Grade Panchayath. Saint George
Saint George (Greek: Γεώργιος (Geórgios), Latin: Georgius, Arabic: القديس جرجس; died 23 April 303), also George of Lydda, was a Christian who is venerated as a saint in Christianity. According to tradition he was a soldier in the Roman army.
