St. Elijah's Church, Podujevo
The Church of Saint Elijah ( sr, Црква светог Илије, ''Crkva svetog Ilije''; sq, Kisha e Shën Ilias), also known as Saint Andrew's Church, is а Serbian Orthodox church located on a small hill near the city of Podujevo, in Kosovo. The complex includes an Orthodox cemetery. It was built in 1929, and has been demolished several times, as of 2010, the church has been rebuilt and renovated five times. History 1941 destruction The Church was shelled and dome was destroyed in 1941, during World War II. Later, after the creation of Yugoslavia, the church was restored by the Serbian residents of Podujevo. Reconstruction was finally finished in 1971. 1999 attack In 1999, the church was burnt down in what appeared to "be a well-planned action, conducted by criminal elements" after KFOR patrols changed shifts. 2004 Unrest In Kosovo
The 2004 unrest in Kosovo is the worst ethnic violence case in Kosovo since the end of the Kosovo War, 1998–99 conflict. The violence erupted in the partitioned town of Mitrovica, Kosovo, Kosovo Mitrovica, leaving hundreds wounded and at least 14 people dead. The Podujevo bus bombing was an attack on a bus carrying Serb civilians near the town of Podujevo in Kosovo on 16 February 2001. The bombing killed twelve Serb civilians who were travelling to Gračanica and injured dozens more. Albanian extremists are suspected of being responsible for the attack. Gračanica is a predominantly Serb-populated town in central Kosovo, near the regional capital Pristina, in a predominantly Albanian-populated area. The Battle of Podujevo ( al, Beteja e Tabeve te Llapashticës) ( sr, Битка код Подујева, ''Bitka kod Podujeva'') was fought in the Kosovo War between the Yugoslav Special Anti-Terrorist Unit and KLA insurgents in the village of Llapashtica e Epërme in the municipality of Podujevo.
