Springfield, Fife
Springfield is a village that lies at the edge of the Howe of Fife, to the south-west of the town of Cupar, Fife, Scotland. The origin of the community is thought to be from the linen industry in the 19th century. The Church of Scotland parish church was built in 1861, and now shares a minister with nearby Ceres and Kemback. The church garden was originally intended to be a cemetery, but the high water table prevented this. The community is surrounded by fields; agriculture is still an important part of the economy of north east Fife (although few Springfield residents work in agriculture). After World War II, a considerable number of council houses were built in the village, creating new communities in Crawley Crescent, Tarvit Terrace and several other streets. Many of these local authority-owned houses have since been bought by their former tenants. Springfield, Birmingham
Springfield is a ward (politics), ward in south east Birmingham, England, created in 2004 from much of the old Sparkhill ward. It is a part of the Government of Birmingham, England#Districts, formal district of Hall Green. Places of interest The area is served by the Sparkhill Library that has, with its distinctive clock tower, developed into a local landmark. It was built in 1900 as the council house for the Yardley District Council. The building was converted into a library and opened on 19 January 1923. It is one of the earliest examples of double glazing windows in a public building. St John's Church, Sparkhill is the Anglican Parish church for the northern part of Springfield Ward.
