Spring Brook (Burnaby)
Spring Brook is one of many tributaries of Still Creek, an important stream in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. It runs north just east of Boundary Road and joins Still Creek just west of Gilmore Station. The area was once known to Burnaby residents as Broadview. Local old-time residents Margaret and Flora McCallum recall how the children of the neighbourhood waded and played in the creek during hot summers. Still Creek
Still Creek is a long stream flowing across Central Burnaby, British Columbia and into Burnaby Lake (which outflows into the Brunette River). Still Creek's path lies mainly through the industrial area which contributes to its high level of pollution, although through dedicated work of local volunteers the creek is slowly recovering. In 2006, the City of Burnaby approved a plan to reduce the amount of flooding in the Still Creek watershed (the low-lying area of Gilmore Avenue is heavily flooded every year) while improving fish and wildlife habitat. There is considerable vegetation along the creek banks that serves as a habitat for great blue heron, red-tailed hawk, belted kingfisher, and even an occasional pheasant, as well as aquatic songbirds such as red-winged blackbird. Burnaby
Burnaby is a city in the Lower Mainland region of British Columbia, Canada. Gilmore Station (SkyTrain)
Gilmore is an elevated station on the Millennium Line of Metro Vancouver's SkyTrain rapid transit system. The station is located on Gilmore Avenue in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. The station is adjacent to several high-rise condominium complexes which are a component of the Brentwood Town Centre Development Plan, which drives the transformation of the area from a light industrial and lower-occupancy commercial zone into an urbanized centre. Watercress
Watercress or yellowcress (''Nasturtium officinale'') is a species of aquatic flowering plant in the cabbage family Brassicaceae. Watercress is a rapidly growing perennial plant native to Europe and Asia. It is one of the oldest known leaf vegetables consumed by humans. Watercress and many of its relatives, such as garden cress, mustard, radish, and wasabi, are noteworthy for their piquant flavors. The hollow stems of watercress float in water. The leaf structure is pinnately compound. Small, white, and green inflorescences are produced in clusters and are frequently visited by insects, especially hoverflies, such as ''Eristalis'' flies. Chinatown (Vancouver)
Chinatown is a neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, and is Canada's largest Chinatown. Centered around Pender Street, it is surrounded by Gastown to the north, the Downtown financial and central business districts to the west, the Georgia Viaduct and the False Creek inlet to the south, the Downtown Eastside and the remnant of old Japantown to the northeast, and the residential neighbourhood of Strathcona to the southeast.
