''Sportske novosti'' () is a Croatian daily sports newspaper based in Zagreb. It was established on 9 August 1945 as ''Ilustrirane fiskulturne novine'' weekly newspaper. Several months later, on 10 December 1945, its name got changed to ''Narodni sport''. From March 1949, its publishing frequency increased to twice a week, and from 1951 to three times per week. In 1962 it was acquired by the ''Vjesnik'' publishing company. Its name was changed to ''Sportske novosti'' on 1 March 1962 and from then on it was published five times per week. Since 1967 it was published six times per week (every day except on Sundays). From 1974 to 1987 it had a circulation of 100,000 copies which turned ''Sportske novosti'' into the most popular sports newspaper in Yugoslavia. ''Hrvatska radiotelevizija'' (abbr. HRT), or Croatian Radiotelevision, is Croatia's public broadcasting company. The Hrvatska nogometna liga () ( en, Croatian football league), also known as HNL or for sponsorship reasons the SuperSport HNL, is the top Croatian professional football league competition, established in 1992. Previously, it was called Prva Hrvatska nogometna liga (First Croatian Football League), but a league structure reorganization from 2022–23 led to name changes for the three top league levels. Overview The league was formed in 1991, following the dissolution of the Yugoslav First League, and is operated by the Croatian Football Federation. Since its formation, the league went through many changes in its system and number of participating clubs. The Sportske novosti Yellow Shirt award or SN Yellow Shirt for short ( hr, Žuta majica Sportskih novosti) is an annual football award given by the Croatian sports daily ''Sportske novosti''. It is awarded to the best football player playing in the Croatian First League at the end of every season, based on post-match ratings awarded by sports journalists over the course of a season. Established in 1953, the award was originally sponsored by the defunct Zagreb-based sports newspaper ''Narodni sport'' and its sports weekly ''Sportska panorama'', and was awarded to the Player of the Season in the Yugoslav First League. The Football Oscar ( hr, Nogometni Oscar) is an annual football award given by the Croatian Association Football Union and Sportske novosti since 2013. In the 2017 edition the award was renamed as Trophy Footballer ( hr, Trofej Nogometaš). It is awarded to the best football player, manager and goalkeeper playing in the Croatian First League.
