Sporting Blood (1940 Film)
''Sporting Blood '' is a 1940 American drama film, directed by S. Sylvan Simon for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It stars Robert Young, Maureen O'Sullivan, and Lewis Stone. Plot In need of money, Myles Vanders returns to his old Virginia home, once a thriving horse farm that has fallen on hard times. Years have gone by but he still is subject to resentment of the community for Myles' father having scandalously run off with neighboring stable owner Davis Lockwood's wife. Myles manages to persuade Lockwood to lend him $3,000 to train and enter his horse Skipper in an upcoming stakes race. Myles must put up his farm as collateral. Lockwood tells his daughters Linda and Joan not to associate with Myles or trust him. Linda says he should be given a fair chance, while Joan attracts a romantic interest from Myles. Robert Young (actor)
Robert George Young (February 22, 1907 – July 21, 1998) was an American film, television and radio actor best known for his leading roles as Jim Anderson, the father character, in ''Father Knows Best'' (CBS, then NBC, then CBS again) and the physician Marcus Welby in ''Marcus Welby, M.D.'' (ABC). Early life Born in Chicago, Young was the son of an Irish immigrant father, Thomas E. Young, and an American mother, Margaret Fyfe. While Young was a child, the family moved to various locations within the U.S., including Seattle as well as Los Angeles, where Young was a student at Abraham Lincoln High School. After graduation, he studied and performed at the Pasadena Playhouse while working odd jobs and appearing in bit parts in silent films. Thomas Aloyisus Kennedy (July 15, 1885 – October 6, 1965) was an American actor known for his roles in Hollywood comedies from the silent days, with such producers as Mack Sennett and Hal Roach, mainly supporting lead comedians such as the Marx Brothers, W. C. Fields, Mabel Normand, Shemp Howard, Laurel and Hardy, and the Three Stooges. Kennedy also played dramatic roles as a supporting actor. Career For over 50 years, from 1915 to 1965, he appeared in over 320 films and television series, often uncredited. His first film was a short black and white comedy ''His Luckless Love''. Lloyd Corrigan (October 16, 1900 – November 5, 1969) was an American film and television actor, producer, screenwriter, and director who began working in films in the 1920s. The son of actress Lillian Elliott, Corrigan directed films, usually mysteries such as '' Daughter of the Dragon'' starring Anna May Wong (one of a trilogy of Fu Manchu movies for which he has writing credits), before dedicating himself more to acting in 1938.
