Sport In Abkhazia
Football is a major sport in Abkhazia (a territory in the Caucasus). During Soviet times, the main club within Abkhazia itself was FC Dinamo Sukhumi, but Abkhazian footballers were prominent in the Georgian team FC Dinamo Tbilisi and in other Soviet teams. In 1994, after its declaration of independence from Georgia, Abkhazia organised a nine-team amateur league. Outside football, many Abkhazian sportsmen participate in international competitions as Russian citizens, especially in boxing and freestyle wrestling. A basketball team based in the capital Sukhumi plays in a Russian league. Football Football was the most popular sport in Abkhazia during Soviet times. Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Akhrik Tsveiba
Akhrik Sokratovich Tsveiba (russian: Ахрик Сократович Цвейба; born 10 September 1966) is a former Soviet association footballer. Career Tsveiba started his career at FC Dinamo Sukhumi before playing regularly for FC Dinamo Tbilisi. In 1990, he left for FC Dynamo Kyiv, where he was nominated by Ukraine. He then played briefly in Russia before signing with Gamba Osaka. He returned to Russia for FC Alania Vladikavkaz, where he was nominated by Russia. Tsveiba left for the Chinese team Shanghai Pudong, before spending his late career with the Russian teams Uralan Elista and Dynamo Moscow. In 2009, he was part of the Russian squad that won the 2009 Legends Cup. International career He was a non-playing squad member at the 1990 FIFA World Cup for the Soviet Union, and at Euro 1992 for the CIS. The Confederation of Independent Football Associations (CONIFA) is the international governing body for association football teams that are not affiliated with FIFA. Abkhazia National Football Team
The Abkhazia national football team is the team representing the partially recognised state of Abkhazia. They are not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, and therefore cannot compete for the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championship. They competed at the first ConIFA World Football Cup in 2014, finishing 8th overall, and they hosted and won the second edition in 2016. The Erovnuli Liga ( ka, ეროვნული ლიგა - lit. National League) is the top division of professional football in Georgia. Since 1990, it has been organized by the Professional Football League of Georgia and Georgian Football Federation. From 1927 to 1989, the competition was held as a regional tournament within the Soviet Union. From 2017 the Erovnuli Liga switched to a spring-autumn system, with only 10 clubs in the top flight. An internally displaced person (IDP) is someone who is forced displacement, forced to leave their home but who remains within their country's borders. They are often referred to as refugees, although they do not fall within the Refugee#Definitions, legal definitions of a refugee. ASMC Sukhumi is a Georgian football club. It was formed by IDP from Abkhazia, as Dinamo Sukhumi. It's named after the most successful club from Abkhaz ASSR, FC Dinamo Sukhumi. Ochamchire
Ochamchire or Ochamchira ( ka, ოჩამჩირე, ; ab, Очамчыра, ''Ochamchyra''; russian: Очамчира, ''Ochamchira'') is a seaside city on the Black Sea coast of Abkhazia, Georgia, and a centre of an eponymous district. According to the 1989 Soviet population census, Ochamchire had 20,078 residents. After the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict of 1992–93, Ochamchire experienced a significant population decline due to ethnic cleansing of Georgians.
