''Speedboats for Breakfast'' is the sixth solo studio album by Australian singer/songwriter James Reyne released on 19 April 2004. The album is Reyne's first studio album since ''Design for Living'' in 1999 and features a cover of Olivia Newton-John's " Have You Ever Been Mellow". On the lead single "Bug" Reyne said: "I wanted to create a song out of playing the same four chords going round and round, building and growing all the time, with things coming in and dropping out. The listener knows there's transition but there's no real point where the change is obvious." In a 2013 interview, when asked if there is a song he likes playing live, Reyne responded with "Oh usually some of the newer ones, there’s a song of mine called "Rainbow’s Dead End" that I like playing." James Reyne
James Michael Nugent Reyne OAM (born 19 May 1957) is an Australian rock musician and singer-songwriter both in solo work and, until 1986, with the band Australian Crawl. Biography Early years Reyne was born in Lagos, Nigeria. His father, Rodney Michael Reyne, was an English-born former Royal Marine, who served as aide-de-camp to the Governor of the state of Victoria, Sir Dallas Brooks, and subsequently worked for British Petroleum. His paternal grandfather, Cecil Nugent Reyne, was an English rear admiral. His mother, Judith Graham, née Leask, was a teacher. His younger brother, David Reyne, was also born in Nigeria. The family moved to Victoria in late 1959, where a younger sister Elisabeth was born. "Have You Never Been Mellow" is a song recorded by British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John for her 1975 fifth studio album of the same name. Written and produced by John Farrar, the song was released as the lead single from the album in January 1975. In the United States, the single became Newton-John's second consecutive number-one hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, topping the chart in March 1975. ''Design for Living'' is the fifth solo studio album by Australian singer/songwriter James Reyne released in February 1999. The album follows a four-year hiatus from recording, which saw Reyne's band Australian Crawl inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, and Reyne working in theatre ( Little Shop of Horrors) and television ( State Coroner). The album was recorded with friends and brothers Scott and Brett Kingman and further cemented his position as a unique, witty, thoughtful and challenging songwriter and singer. "Not Waving Drowning" and "Wonderful Today" were released as singles. A limited edition 2CD was released featuring live recordings of Reyne's tracks.
