Speed Skating At The 2018 Winter Olympics – Women's 3000 Metres
The women's 3000 metres speed skating competition of the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at Gangneung Oval in Gangneung on 10 February 2018. Summary Competitors included reigning 2014 champion Ireen Wüst (also the 2006 gold medallist), 2010 champion Martina Sáblíková (also the 2014 silver medallist), and 2002 victor Claudia Pechstein. The 2014 bronze medallist Olga Graf qualified for the event but decided not to compete. Skating in the 5th pair, Carlijn Achtereekte posted the then-fastest time and remained in the gold medal position throughout the event. In the 9th pair Ireen Wüst held a lead over Achtereekte's time for most of her race, but ultimately finished 0.08 seconds behind to take second place. In the 11th pair Antoinette de Jong posted the third fastest time, and in the final pair Martina Sáblíková came up half a second short of the bronze medal position, finishing fourth. Gangneung Oval
The Gangneung Oval (Korean: 강릉 스피드 스케이팅 경기장) is a speed skating oval in South Korea, which was used for the speed skating competitions at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The building of the oval was started in September 2013. The venue consists of a double track 400 metre rink and has a capacity of 8000 seats. It has three floors above ground and two underground levels. Ida Njåtun
Ida Njåtun (; born 6 February 1991) is a Norwegian speed skater specialising in the 1500 and 3000 metres distances. She represents the club Asker SK. Njåtun won her first medal at a Norwegian senior championship in 2008 (then aged 16), and became Norwegian allround champion in 2011. Njåtun withdrew from defending her national title the following season due to illness, but came back to win four successive gold medals in the allround championships from 2013 to 2016, and again in 2019. Isabelle Weidemann (born July 18, 1995) is a Canadian speed skater. She is a multiple Olympic medallist, winning gold in the team pursuit, silver in the 5,000 metre, and bronze in the 3,000 metre at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Ivanie Blondin (born April 2, 1990) is a Canadian speed skater. She primarily skates in the long distances of 3000 m and 5000 m and the mass start event. Blondin won a silver medal in the mass start event at the 2015 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships and a gold medal in the same event at the 2020 World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships. is a Japanese speed skater. She has won a total of seven medals at the Olympics, two of them gold.
