Speed Madness (1932 Film)
''Speed Madness'' is a 1932 American action film directed by George Crone and starring Richard Talmadge, Nancy Drexel and Huntley Gordon.Langman p.247 Plot Bob Stuart, the idle son of a shipbuilding magnate gets a job at his father's shipyard. The company's major project is to design a new speedboat in order to win a major new contract but faces sabotage from rivals. Bob turns out to be surprisingly able and manages to help with the construction of the boat. He plans to drive it himself during the race, but narrowly escapes a bomb planted on it by their opponents. He confronts the gang behind it and secure his father the contract. George Crone
George Crone (1894–1966), also known as George J. Crone, was an American director and editor, whose career spanned both the silent and sound film eras. He began his career cutting the silent film '' Let's Be Fashionable'' in 1920. Between that film and his final screen credit, editing '' Arruza'' (released in 1972), he edited over 40 films, and directed over a dozen more. ''Arruza'' was released 6 years after Crone's death. Crone had worked with director Budd Boetticher, on Boetticher's obsession, a docudrama regarding his friend Carlos Arruza, the famous bullfighter. Boetticher had used ten cameras to film 2 of Arruza's bullfights in January and February 1966, and Crone was tasked with editing the different fights together. Crone died shortly after completing the tasks, in June 1966. Earlier in his career, he had been the original editor on '' Citizen Kane'', before being replaced by Robert Wise. Walter Brennan
Walter Andrew Brennan (July 25, 1894 – September 21, 1974) was an American actor and singer. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performances in '' Come and Get It'' (1936), ''Kentucky'' (1938), and '' The Westerner'' (1940), making him one of only three male actors to win three Academy Awards, and the only male or female actor to win three awards in the supporting actor category. Wade Boteler (October 3, 1888 – May 7, 1943) was an American film actor and writer. He appeared in more than 430 films between 1919 and 1943. Biography He was born in Santa Ana, California, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Boteler graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Matthew Betz (September 13, 1881 – January 26, 1938) was an American film actor. Betz was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1881. Following an extended career in the U.S. Cavalry, Betz spent eight years in Vaudeville. His first stage play was ''Ellis Island''. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1914 and 1937. Pat O'Malley (September 3, 1890 – May 21, 1966) was an American vaudeville and stage performer prior to starting a prolific film career at the age of sixteen. He later had a career in television. Career O'Malley was born as Patrick Henry O'Malley, Jr. in Forest City, Pennsylvania. He had circus experience by the time he discovered an interest in motion pictures. His screen career dates from the days of Kalem and Edison Studios.
